I'm so sorry! ): That's terrible! Maybe she'll turn up later? I never give up on a bird until at least a month later. I've had hens wander off and brood clutches of eggs for a month, and come back with strings of babies. I've even had a Buff Orpington that would leave every couple of weeks for a whole week, and then come back perfectly fine! I have no idea where she went to during her midnight rendezvous, but she never completely disappeared.
If she was small, it could have been a hawk though. I have had two young birds grabbed this month by a little sharp shinned hawk. ): He's small, but very daring. Even when I chase after him and yell he stays long enough to grab them, and only goes as far as a nearby tree. I also lost three of my best 2 week old chicks to a cat last month, including one from Cloverleaf! Ever since, I've had to keep the chicks either in an outdoor dog kennel or inside.
Our fair was 7 weeks ago, but I just got around to putting the pics on my computer, so here are a couple pics of my son at the showmanship table with the black hen he got from Leisha!!

I hope you find your little girl. ):
Thank you! She was almost 6 months old and a bantam. Would a hawk have been able to carry her away? There are younger and smaller silkies that hang out with the Fav's. I don't want to give up hope but it really is not like her especially at treat time. I guess she could have gone broody somewhere but I could not find her. I hope you are right and she comes back soon!
I am so sorry for your losses as well! It seems it is always the sweet ones that get sick or go missing.
Ok i am so excited and proud! I have been a lurker on here and have made a few comments BUT guess what? I went to a large chicken show today and guess what i cam home with? A lovely - well to me - a pair of bantam salmons! The rooster is now named Jagger and the hen unnamed - But they settled in to their quarantine spot so quick! Coo'ing and talk ing to me - I am soooo happy! Glad to be a part of you all finally!
I actaully dont remember her name - but the birds they are out of are from - oh ner first name - um Rose? last name Isrig? i have heard her name before and believe she hails from Athens Ohio - I am not looking to show them - they ar emore or less for my enjoyment and to love them .
The Rooster - Jagger - my goodness he has been crowing up a storm this morning - are they known to be quiet or more on the vocal side - or perhaps he is just telling everyone he has arrived!
They are very sweet - already eating out of my hand literally - jsut sat in the coop with them and they were chattering away and walked right up to sample the "treats" i had in my hand-
