Faverolles Thread

This is the famed Rose I? The woman whos address i have had by computer for over a year? WOW! Between Leisha - Peter - Kassandra and you this is a star studded thread ! Look forward to learning all i can here! Ok that probably sounded a bit "rear end" kissing but seriously not many threads carry so much knowledge on a breed!
I too Rose recently got my first Faves at the Lucasville show and was told they come from your lines! And have some lil ones at Leisha's waiting to "come home" now!!!!

Speaking of mentoring,

Leisha helped me out a whole lot this weekend. I needed to decide what birds I was keeping for my spring breeding flock and she helped me weed out what I had. I'v only had chickens for about 1 and 1/2 years and favs only one year, so this was my first set of babies grown up and waiting inspection. I did what I knew to do, feet, fuller beards, etc, but somethings I missed.....like hocks. I won't make that mistake again because obviously ignorance only gets you talked about. I am a busy mom and between keeping up with a three year old, a gymnast daughter, soap making, working nights, etc. I don't have time to read any standard front to back and memorize every point. I learn as I go, it goes with my nature. I found the best birds that were available and that my money could buy. I haven't chinched on the cost of any of my birds.

Leisha helped me decide who to get rid of and in the mean time told me some more of the finer points of things to look for. Being down here in the south and having shown quite a few times, I have yet to have had any other faverolles (in real life) to compare my birds to except last year at Ohio National and this year at Crossroads.

Each time I have come away wtih more knowledge with Leisha being the biggest help. She could have steered me wrong and not pointed out the hocks, or the too light color, and (

)saved herself some competition down the road. HEEHEE. But she didn't. She also didn't wait and point it out on a public forum or talk about my birds behind my back. She did the right thing and told me. OBVIOUSLY NO birds are perfect as evidenced by the whole last few pages of conversation. But the great thing about this board in the past is that someone will let you know there is a problem and give advice as to fix it. This advice generally comes in the form of constructive criticism and us newer members to the fav world who have an interest in improvement of the breed appreciate and "hear" that just as much as the snide comments if not more (except Peter's and he readily admits to being prone to fits and we sit up and listen when he does

).

Everyone on this board that knows me even a little bit knows that I am not one to say something negative or cause trouble.

I have the utmost respect for the PREVIOUSLY existing experienced

breeders of the group. I even have an idol or two.

Peter I'm pretty sure has been referred to as "the fav god" a time or two in my vocabulary. It is just a shame when people join the group (and are welcomed warmly) who have awesome reputations as breeders and don't attempt to help others but call others out on their faults. It just puts a bad taste in my mouth!

Sheesh!!! Peter were channeling through me??!! vodka and cranberry on ice please.... whew!!! Probably shouldn't have said all that!!

Kassandra - that means Leisha is a great breeder and wants to help the breed i my opinion - and yes that is the way it should be! i come from a dog show background - and it used to make me sick when breeders would sell less than quality dogs to people - only to make sure they werent beaten by their own dogs. A good breeder's first objective should be to help better and promote the breeed - i am with ya!

HA, now that I am done with my rant I will thank Knox for the props but I am a newbie too with lots to learn and only a little bit to contribute, BUT we all have to start somewhere right??!! Thanks and I can't wait for you to get your 2nd variety installed at your house and add just a bit more of that wonderful faverolles color, fluff, and love at your house!!

Yes she is. And not everyone wants a "show quality" bird. Some are perfectly happy having a "pet quality" bird for their own enjoyment, but up front it be known that they are getting pet quality. And that's OK too!

Well dare i say - having shown dogs- rabbits - horses - i am a "chicken" when it comes to showing them! Have not yet - my lil Rocks are from a great breeder who went over their good and bad points - but have never done it! LOL
You never know tho - many breeders - well at least of dogs start out with a pet - and grow to love them and branch out into showing!

To all of the BYC members I too give credit to Dick & Peter. However, when was the last time either of them put a chicken in the show. Jonathan and I have been exhibiting Favs for the last eight years. Helping keep them on the map. Until all of you onlookers get involved it will only be a fading fad. Not here at Patterson Poultry. We had several courageous women from the west coast pay good money for good birds. Thank you! I hope to see them in the show hall in the near future. Get involved support the Fav. Club and bring your birds. Quit sitting on the fence. Sorry! It is frustrating read all this chatter when only a few people really get things done. My hats off to you Leshia!

Thanks for joining us Mr. Ron. I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you at Crossroads. I saw you numerous times (I think it was you) but you were already visiting with someone else. My "I'll catch him next time" ended up not at all. I'm down here in Arkansas and am good friends with Keith. He decided right at the same time I did to get LF and that was at the Shawnee show that I met johnathan and Keith and him discussed the egg swap. Johnathan was actually very helpful that weekend in telling me about some breeding tips and then i got to visit with him shortly again at indy. I have 2 youngsters from keiths first hatch of your eggs and just recently got about 30 chicks from Keith's first breeding. These all had stellar feet!!! I was so excited. Sadly I lost these last week while I was there in I dy when my whole coop/ barn burnt down. Luckily I Know where to get more!!

To comment on your fav club plug (thank you). We had a table at crossroads with a raffle set up. Between items donated from a very few members and the proceeds from my soap we (the club) made $200+ dollars. Not sure about exact amount. I also plan on scheduling (or trying) a special or state meet for or spring state show and a district for our fall show. These are about 1400 bird shows but have only had my favs and one trio of LF. That may be all that's here again but it will get the fav club name out there!! Thanks again for joining our thread and hope you will continue contribute.
