While we're talking about projects...here are some pics of my F1 buff Orp / Faverolles cockerel that I just took last week....

Obviously I've got a ways to go with this project, but I really like this cockerel. Only one of the buff girls has just gotten back to laying after raising babies, the other two girls haven't yet as I just took their babies away on Monday (your trio, Paulo). Will be incubating everything I get from these for a bit...

I love it! Very handsome looking roo. Is it Bantam?

BTW- Thank you so much for the trio

You bet!!

The buff girls are bantams, the cockerel had a bantam mom and a smaller LF daddy. He's way too big, but the smallest of all the cockerels I hatched from the cross. I needed something with a good personality and darker color, and I got it!!

here's hoping for a good hatch and plenty of sweet and pretty birdies!

Hey people! Merry Christmas! I have questions for the professionals among us.

I picked up four LF pullets (from Ron Patterson - thank you!) at Indianapolis in October, ranging in age from two weeks to about five weeks. They are getting pretty big now, and two of them are actually going to someone else, although I get to pick the two I want first. I want to know what I should be looking for at this age, or is it really too soon to see what they are going to be? I guess I'm looking at the feathers, since they meet the standard on the other points - color, eyes, and toes, etc. Any advice would be great, even if I have to keep them for a couple more months.

Thanks!

Hey Misty!!

I just have to tell you...our little blue salmon / mottled girl has become a house chicken!
lol.png
Her crate is right next to my computer desk, and she likes to divide her time between pooping on my lap, preening my hair from her "perch" (my shoulder) and typing on my keyboard (sometimes with her beak, sometimes with her feet).

In short, we LOVE HER!!!!! Still waiting for the first egg...she's only what...8 months old...yeah....

LOL, I can soooo see that happening!
<--- is guilty of all the above
roll.png
Glad she is doing well for you...I'd love to see pics if/when you had time to share them

Her 'twin brother' was gorgeous, unfortunately he had a super 5th on one foot and a not so super 5th toe on 2nd foot, so he was culled a couple months ago.
Since I've received so many messages asking what my 'new project' is...I will be working with mahogany as well as barred. We will see what I have to show off come spring
thumbsup.gif
All the girls are laying so well, if any of you are interested in b/b/s, white or BS/RSalmon, let me know...hate to let so many eggs go to waste
smile.png
Take care everyone!! So nice to hear from you all after so long!!

Thanks Inkheart and Andrew - I really like this cockerel. I almost lost him when he was about 5 months old, the girls were none too keen on having a youngster for a boyfriend, and almost killed him. Stitches and antibiotics and about a month, and you couldn't even tell that much of his skull had been exposed. And he's just been a great bird from day 1.

Mary - I haven't found the girls to change all that much, not like the boys anyway. That's great that you got some nice girls!!

Misty - The projects sound awesome!! Can't wait to see pics!!!

The most recent pics I have of the pullet - they aren't the best because she was on my shoulder....

Misty, are you selling more eggs on ebay right now? just checking because i am one of the bidders on it at the moment and i'm hoping to get a few bantam eggs to add to my incubator for some new birds for next year.

Cloverleaf, i love that millie fleur girl! i hope you can get that one going as a potential color project!

She doesn't have the mille fleur genotype...she's more of a blue mottled with salmon leakage...don't worry, I'll be playing with her genetics a bit...
