The first 2 have body structure and the 3rd one is standing too upright and also less body. Just my opinion

See pictures can be deceiving. Cockerel #3 is larger than #1. But not by much. The #1 boy looks fuller and he tends to stand more upright. I keep changing my mind about them every couple of weeks. I think I make up my mind and then I am unsure again.

I like the 3rd one's beard more right now (it's better than his daddy's), and since they came from my flock, I know what I like from these guys, and generally how they might finish out from this stage on...

How is your eggs going? They have settled in and starting to lay. Did you have a good time at the show last weekend?

To cold up here. Many eggs cracked before I picked up....frozen solid. Had fun at the show. I couldn't stay long, had to much to do.

It is hard to judge by pictures. On the first one I like the cherry mahogany red. It seems it goes back to the tail. I consider him as a cockerel breeder. On the second one I like the type. His wing looks short. Not saying the wing is really short but I believe he is a real wide bird. At the bottom of the bird you can see a kind of whit lacing on his feathers. To me that indicates a pullet breeder. Only my opinion.

Opinions from experts mean a lot to those of us still learning. One of my other chicken friends and I were discussing just this week how frustrating chickens can be, because there is rarely a clear answer like "THAT'S the one! Every bird has good and bad points, and every breeding with that same bird may have different results. We always get to the point where we question our sanity in getting involved with all of this. But then we go out to do our chicken chores and are rewarded with those little bearded faces and the beautiful colors, and go back to learning more. I guess the lack of hard and fast rules with chickens - in every aspect, not just breeding - is taking me a long time to get used to.
