Faverolles Thread

Just be aware that it's the luck of the draw with hatchery birds, and I don't just mean with what they look like. The single meanest hen I have ever encountered is a hatchery salmon Faverolles. I do not know which hatchery she came from, but she's MEAN. I can't touch her without long sleeves and leather gloves....so my point is, don't judge all Faverolles roosters based on one that comes from a hatchery...

And I know that everyone has their own individual personalities. Honestly, I ordered 5 straight run but the plan isn't to keep all 5. We'll keep the nicest pullet and I guess we'll wait it out with the nicest cockerel. We plan on stocking up the freezer this fall. I'm a little worried that I won't be able to do it once the time comes though. If they were mean, it would make it a little easier.

Thanks for posting the pics!! Let me see if Laurel wants them, PLEASE don't eat them! Somebody will take them! :) There are too few of them. How's the temperament of the cockerel?

PM'ing you about something else...

Yes, please if you can hold them, someone should be able to take them, i would in a heartbeat if i could travel that far....Thanks Jeanine... Who ever does, i would like to follow them and perhaps get eggs from them as they are slightly different colored than mine. eliz

I agree with Cloverleaf....don't eat them! I just can't figure out a way to get them unless you can ship them.

I tried to get better pics but its foggy out...The first 3 pics on my last post were of the #2 boy...he's way prettier, darker, a lot of black on his chest, great toe separation. The pic with 2 birds is boy#1 and the girl on the right. middle pic was girl and last pic was boy#1 These pics are Boy #1 sweeter personality, though both boys will follow me around, If I catch them, this one is most content to be held, settles down right away. I could definitly let him stay as a pet, but I hate to "waste" him if someone could use him. He has really bad fusing on his #5 toes on both feet and some white spots I think you can see them. Both these boys had to room with the silkies for a few months because my salmon girls were pulling out tail feathers so they are still a little spars back there.
The next pic I tried to get #2 chest better but the camera wouldn"t focus compliments of the fog. Heavy black "lacing". Its kind of more dark feathers with a red stripe down the middle. last pic is both boys but mostly the #2.
These birds are OK birds....... I thought that "Mahogany " Favs were going to be a real mahogany color.....like heritage RIR. I don't like RIR so I don't want to try to get them and use them to improve the color.....that would be a bigger project than I was looking for. I was going to get 10 and cull down to 2 males and hopefully use all the girls, but with only 3 birds, I don't see enough genetic variability. Like I mentioned earlier, with the boys, I was culling all my other birds and I knew I should have culled my #1 boy, but personality trumps most everything here, even if it means being relegated to the mutt/pet status.

Has anyone received birds from california that weren't NPIP? What happens if the state they are going to decides that they can't enter?
