Faverolles Thread

I have to give a shout out to Cloverleaf! I bought some eggs at the Canby swap. Last week I had a 100% hatch rate on her gorgeous Salmon Faverolles. My eggs from Ed did great as well, both shipped and picked up at the swap. I'm thrilled! Thank you both!

This is only my 2nd 100% hatch ever.

I have now come to realize that I had previously had my humidity up a little too high for LF eggs. My silkies have been hatching great but I had been having a hard time with bigger chicks.

Why should the humidity be different for silkies and LF eggs? and different how?
I don't know why it "should" be but I know what my experience has shown. I've heard from others that the humidity for LF breeds needs to be a tad lower than silkies. If the humidity is too high, they drown. Humidity is just one factor when hatching. This time I allowed the water tray to completely dry out before refilling. I've also partially covered my water tray with glass so the rate of evaporation is slower. I'm going to open my rear vents a little also. My incubator is separate from my hatcher. The hatcher will still be kept at a higher humidity percentage.

It seems like it has been forever since I had posted but I thought I would update and post pics on my bantams. I still have Lenny, Squiggy & Shirley and also some of their kids now. LOL I also had bought some eggs but none had hatched. The P.O. was pretty brutal.
They are all by far my favorites in the flock. I just love them. It is hard to believe they are a little over a year old now.

Here is Squiggy. AKA The Squidster. LOL He always stops what he is doing to pose for the camera. He recently lost his signature one long tail feather that curled. I just love this guy!

It is hard to get a picture of Lenny because he has a wife and kids now and takes them for long walks over to the neighbors! I will have to post a little older picture of Lenny.

And little Shirley. She flits around and does her own thing and thinks I have to give her food constantly! She is quite bossy with the other hens, no matter how big they are!

I also have a couple white youngsters pop up.

Oh! My grandbabies! The boys look so much like their daddy! Guess what? The other folks I sold babies to got some white in theirs as well, and they gave me one back, so now I have a couple of my original pair's descendants. Can't wait to see how the white turns out.

These guys are great and I am so glad I got them from you! I just love watching them grumbling and mumbling all day long because they have so much to keep track of here!

Shirley goes through phases where I have to hold & carry her everywhere and is quite spoiled! You will have to keep me posted on your whites!
