Faverolles Thread

I just bought some quality SFs from a breeder here on BYC. The pullets don't have "facial hair" yet. Someone on another thread told me they're born with it?? These are my first SF chicks, so I'm not entirely sure.

Maybe that's why the breeder decided to sell them?

"Bald eagle" LOL, my boys look have that look right now, chickasaurs. I call them my little "pterodactyls," but I know the correct terminology would be "velociraptor" - pterodactyl seems more fitting somehow....

There's an age where the muffs may not be that noticable but they'll fill in as they get older. If I get a chance I'll get some pictures of my chicks that are going through the uglies at the moment.

Oh good, I'm glad to hear it. I was a little nervous about the facial hair. - I've been wanting to "upgrade" my SFs and these kids are from good stock...

Pics of chicks are good! Let's see some!

Here are two youngsters - one cockerel, one pullet. As you can see they don't have much in the way of muffs.

Older cockerel. This guy is crowing already!

Older pullet, with a young cockerel for comparison

Cute kids! - how old is the cockerel that's crowing? - I have one that's 3 months. I haven't heard anything, yet! - Maybe he's just not letting me hear his singing voice

I heard/saw two of my11 week olds crowing for the first time this morning. My husband said he thought he heard one a couple of days ago. My husband is usually up before me, but I was up early enough to see the mas exodus from the roost this morning. After they were down and running around for a couple of minutes, one little boy stretched and let out a teenage/my voice is changing crow and then one of his brothers followed. And then....... nothing else. Maybe they are just early birds. We'll see what continues.

I knew it! Mine are being shy! Maybe the other, mature roos are intimidating them!
I am wondering if I will be able to hear if they all begin to compete with one another. We have 6 Fav boys, 1 Araucana, and one Houdan that we know of. Two more that we aren't certain on. Boy I need to get rid of some birds! Anyone in AR need some Roos?

This was our first hatch and our first time with boys. When should I worry about them really fighting eachother? Or since they grow up together will they estabish a pecking order like the girls and the fighting be minimal?
