Faverolles Thread

Maybe this man could be encouraged to visit the Heritage thread. I know I am in there and could really use the support with Favorelle info. It looks like a little more than a dozen eggs are coming may way. I didn't plan for so many. I have no idea what I am going to do with these Favs. I have never shown or been to a show... all of a sudden I am nervous in a way that seems silly. These are chickens and I have raised chickens before but this will be my second installment of serious quality chickens. The first were Ams. I have never bred with real intention-- ah, chickens I mean. I need to learn a LOT to be worthy of such nice and unusual birds. HELP! If this man knew a lot send him to the Heritage thread so he isn't totally lost. I need all the knowledge I can get!

That is the beauty of reading. You can skip over skim or read thoroughly. I am always disappointed by some people who think they can rule a thread by being immature and "tattling" on someone. Not my idea of good people. I love the good sound info I can get here. Too bad I am now not able to get info from someone else who really knows his stuff.

I don't get to view this thread often enough but this is sad news indeed. I have always respected Peter's opinion and valued his experience. This is a very unfortunate turn of circumstances.

I am sorry, I thought I was keeping up with the thread pretty well but obviously I missed something major.

I am sorry to see anyone with such experience be banned. Is he off the thread or the entire BYC? How do you know Cloverleaf? Do you have outside contact with him? Is there somewhere that Banning is posted if someone violates ( or is thought to have violated) protocol?

I certainly have not seen anything on this thread or the ones I read regularly that I thought would warrant banning.

I am puzzled and sad. So far it has been my experience here that people are helpful and tolerant of others methods of careing for and raising their flocks. I so appreciate the experience and opinions of everyone here. I take some pieces and use it as it fits my situation and other advice I discard as I feel it would work for me. I am not sure why people can't agree to disagree if that is the case.

"Rumor" has it that the UA flock started from Patterson (IL) and then some from two other sources. Only Patterson males were used. With a fully enclosed research barn their season is a bit different than the real world. After several years and thousands of culling Dr. Bramwell has developed a very excellent line that can compete with the best.

Guess you could just call this line the UA or Bramwell line.

has a nice flock of salmons and hatches several thousand chicks a year from his SQ birds (i think like 8 to 10 different breeds) he culls really hard and has improved his birds allot... all i have seen that have hatched from his eggs have been correct with few culls so i am exited to be getting some of his line...

i am going up there Saturday to pick up eggs :)

I would encourage everyone to visit Peter's website, and copy & paste the information there for your own reference and usage, before that is gone as well. He may not be on here to offer advice / help along the way, but his words and experience are in black and white for us to reference for all time...

He is banned from all of BYC.

Don't overthink it. They are still chickens. Most of us on here are more than happy to offer any help / advice / opinions that you might need. Remember...you are getting more than a dozen eggs...doesn't mean that many will hatch. Don't panic. It's always better to start with more chicks anyway, because even from a SQ flock, if you're lucky you may get one truly exceptional SQ chick per 100 chicks that hatch....

No, it would be easy to miss. It was literally NOTHING...but someone chose to report his post and with the other points he's gotten for being reported, it got him banned. Hopefully not forever, but I would not blame him one bit if he chose to never come back on here. I really hope he does, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Yes, I have outside contact with him, and when you get banned, you get banned from all of BYC. Anyone can report any post at any time, the little red flag at the bottom of each post is where you report someone. There is a whole ton of byc rules, and if someone chooses to tweak the truth, or elaborate in a certain way, they can make the report stick. It's sad, but true.

Thou i do not have any of Peter Merlin's breeding, he has been one of the few, whose name has been synonymous with Faverolles. His original writings and pictures helped with our understanding of the conformation of what we breed for today. Thankyou Jeanine and all for recognizing that thou we may not always be kind or understood, we have a place and a right to our opinions here and his will be missed.

Like Cloverleaf said, though you're getting a dozen eggs that doesn't mean they'll all hatch.

Where are you in Maine anyway? VioletBlueIvy is in central Maine and she just started her first flock of Favs. I'm up in that area every other weekend or so too if you need help.

As far as shows go I think the Central Maine Bird Fanciers have one coming up in Oct, then there's the Boston Poultry Expo in Nov and the Congress in Jan.
