Faverolles Thread

HI, This is really nice to get this discussion going..........of the birds that i have seen, there seems to be the Reddish cast males and the orange cast males,,,,,,the females; lighter brown, some with darker necks, some without with creamier front and beard and those that are darker with a matching beard and front.....all seem appealing....

SandiKlaws males has the chestnut beard, mine has a black beard... If we are re-starting the definition of Mahogany there is nothing that says we cant continue a second incarnation, with standardized markings, finding a niche for it also. Sort of like the Salmon, Blue Salmon.....???? My 2 girls are one of each, both from Sandhill 1 year apart...

I am hoping we can get enough projects going to breed the better conformation that the Faverolle is known for, and distancing ourselves from the inbreeding/linebreeding bottleneck. But considering the color question.....in males do we like black or brown male beards, orange cast or red cast, solid coloration or multi,,,,,,,,,females, solid coloration or darker color with lighter breasts, cream beards or darker beards....does it matter???? maybe or not.......

maybe have a dark and light color of the variety? A "cherry" Mahogany which could be the more flame red, and a "burgundy" which could be the brownish red? I like the look of both, but I agree we need to clarify what colors are "right" so people know what direction to work in

...and the UK Mahogany is totally gorgeous!

Sandi, do you have any links to the UK mahoganys? I did a search and didn't turn any up. I did run across a pair of red faverolles (on BYC), called mahoganys, that were very pretty.

So, I had 2 or 3 people email me this year and say that they hatched all pullets out of eggs I shipped them (6-8 at a time)...I kept thinking "why can't I get a hatch like that??" I may finally have done just that...looking in the brooder where there is a dozen or so LF Favs, I see no obvious boys yet...yet...but I'm

Glad to hear that you have a pullety looking hatch.

Hey all.. I don't have any Favorolles, but my mother is wanting to have a small flock of layers. I think they would be good for her because I know she would want friendly birds or she will lose interest. She is against shipping animals, so she doesn't want to buy from a hatchery for that reason only. So here I am... making contacts for her. Anyone live in or around East TN and may have pullets for sale in the spring? She doesn't want to buy any now, but planning for the spring. She wants to make sure their coop and run is perfect first.

Thanks in advance....

ETA - we are only talking about 2-4 pullets. She wants some of my Barnevelders to finish out her flock of 6 or 7.
