what are your thoughts on non bearded faverolles

Well they lay in winter and are very cold hardy. Small combs and beards on hens help on maintaining that. Well beyond the breed SOP etc just my own thoughts on the justification as to the why's.

What about the other birds in the background? Does your friend have something better to work with there? Unless all of her birds are beardless, I guess I don't understand why the focus on this one bird....

I was just worried that she would pass on her beardless genes to her offspring I am new to the Faverolle world and want to have my own good stock in hopes to maybe someday have birds that I can raise that will be wanted by others considering i have owned LF Salmon Faverolles for 2 years now and have wanted them long before that, I have taken down some names of breeders in hopes to maybe have some new chicks to add to my flock, I have looked at and have read the Standard on these guys and mine aren't terribly bad and i know it will be a long road to get as close to perfection as i can, I will also be asking tons of questions on my road to becoming a True Faverolle Lover, Thank you all in advance, I will also take some pictures of some of what I Think is not a bad Salmon Faverolle, Hope to hear from all you that know the breed.

Hello there! I'm new to Faverolles myself, maybe we can learn together! My first SF purchase was a quad, looks like hatchery stock, back in April. They were all I could find locally. Since then, I've been working toward a "better bird" - with the help of people here on the forum (there are some really helpful people here, and then there's me

). I'll be ordering the SOP very soon. Good luck with your breeding program, I'm sure you'll find what you need....And please, ask lots of questions! I want to learn more too

I'm late to the beardless Fav issue, I know, but I have to agree with what Sandi and Jeanine and the others have stated. This breed is simply too rare yet, and it is still too difficult to get all the traits required, to be throwing bad genes in the mix. It's not fair to the breed, or to the people who have worked for so many years to preserve and improve it. Also, I have never thought that AOV meant missing entire parts of a bird - it's usually for color variation. Besides, the beard is one of the most beautiful and striking features - why would anyone want to take that away?

I got my first copy of the SoP on ebay - only a few years old and much cheaper than a new one. I checked with a friend's new copy (at the time) and the standard was the same.

I'm doing the same. From three bantams two years ago this October when I first learned of the breed, to four bantams and five LF now, in a varied flock of 24. (Took a long time to learn about the breed and then locate/meet/order birds and eggs - but SO worth the wait!) Hoping to show the four girls I hatched from Dick's and Melissa's eggs at the Northeast Poultry Congress in January. They look big now, but are still pretty lightweight, so I can't show them here at home next month.

I've never heard of baycox...do you know if we have it in the US?

I wonder if some vets are using Albon just because that's how they know how to treat it in dogs / cats....

I'm brand new here. I have a friend that is a past sec of the APA so here's the skinny on what one can show.
ANYTHING you wanna. BUT the birds would only be judged as an unrecognized variety of the breed so the only placing they would be allowed would be Best of and Res of variety. Thus, in this case, it would be called salmon (any color) beardless faverolles.
Did this person get eggs from that mean hateful wicked weezer down south cause boi my eggs certainly popped some out too. I do agree though that it's not something one wants to promote if seriously breeding for show stock. I even hatched a 10 headed 1 toed chick, same source. Fortunately it died so i didn't have to start culling on the heads as to which one would be the widest. Talk about too closely bred! Sandi, here's the apology u've had coming......-) I've heard rumor of a new faverolles forum. I think Jeanine will know first when it's up. The electricity has been turned all the way up, hmm I wonder how long before the bulbs actually glow here

. From reading different post byc seems to be like Oz. People come and go so quickly here.. Patty Broner could have shown her Seminole - salmon beardless faverolles she hatched out of eggs she got from my source that had them - unexpectedly. Patty could ya share a pic of Seminole? She looked very similar to what has been posted here. There is another french breed (darned if i can remember) that is salmon and were actually beardless and not featherlegged from 1 region over from the town named faverolles. Anybody remember?

More proof that chickens don't care a thing about whatever plans we might have for them....I just went out and found my awesome little buff cockerel dead....I was planning on using him as my main breeding male for the bantam buffs next spring....

sigh....now to decide what issue I'd rather deal with this coming breeding season...toes or beards....
