Favorite backyard mixed chickens?

These are my mixed breeds:

The first is Rusty. Got him from the neighbors. All I know is that he is part Silkie. He actually has about 3 feathers on each leg/foot. The neighbors have alot of chickens, many mixes themselves, so who knows. He is a very good boy. Protects the ladies well, even me! He has defended me against a broody hen that tried to attack me, as well as a rooster that tried to attack me!

This is Spicy
Got her as an adult. We think she is a RIR bantam /game hen. The owner had RIR and game hens running around, among others. She is very small compared to all my others. I would say maybe a couple of pounds(?)

This is Violet.
Got her from the same person. He wasn't sure what she was, but we think Black Sexlink bantam/Game hen (she was the hen that was attacking me when she was broody, when Rusty stepped in and chased her off)

I like that rooster!

Thanks! Even though he is skittish around people, he really is a good boy. I honestly don't ever even see him eat, he is alway giving everything to the girls! To think that I never even wanted a rooster in the first place. I really lucked out with him.

That's exactly what we all want in a rooster! Good boy! I am so bummed I have to give my JG roo away...he's the best, but I have too many roos, and I am focusing my attention on purebreeds. I will be separating out my egg layers...so no new backyard mixes for a while.

He will be going to a new home, with lots of girls to run with!

Some of my favorite mixes are ~

BJ ~ her mother was a frizzle bantam mottled cochin and I don't know who her Daddy is. She is 26 weeks old and has not yet laid an egg.

Billy is my EE/BO mix and is also 26 weeks old.

And Mocha a EE/Spangled Russian Orloff mix who lays green eggs. She and her 2 sisters are 2.5 years old.

This is Hiro in the front and Kira in the back they are also EE/Spangled Russian Orloffs roos. They were both re-homed last summer

Gorgeous! Love that sweet little frizzle! The last pic of Hiro...he's just striking! If we could only breed for that coloring in true Ameraucanas!

Thanks ~ BJ is probably the sweetest, friendliest chicken I have ever had I am looking forward to hatching some of her babies in the spring with my bantam mottled cochin roo.

Hiro and Kira were very handsome and friendly roos. I think they got their deep mahogany coloring from their daddy the Spangled Russian Orloff. I wish I had kept Hiro ~ but we were having some problems with excessive crowing and them over breeding the hens and decided to re-home them.
