It's always interesting to see "siblings" that are so different. Just like us humans I suppose.

i got 2 crosses for ya. one of them I have Illa trying to guess the parentage of. (i know it)

the big guy is a cross from my buff brahma roo to a RIR hen. i am thinking of making a red variety of brahmas.... then work on speckled sussex like brahmas and milli colored ones.....

and its is banty, i was given her, she is of the original flock i started with.... still have no clue what breed it is or what crosses.... it lays small white/creme eggs.

you are the second person to suggest making black. i could do it. got black jersy giants..... but the offspring would still take long to mature(6 months+ and year for males).... maybe crossing is with an australorp for better egg production? otherwise giants would be my choice, they have the best blackness.

I have Langshans, Black JG's and Black Australorps...I love them all. The Langshans have the feathered feet, but a "U" body shape...so may prove more incompatible. The JG's...LOVE their personality...just easy going...I wonder how difficult it would be to get a small comb. And Australorps are a gorgeous breed. Any new color or breed is a LONG work in progress. I am willing to donate my Light Brahmas, JG's, and 1 Australorp to the new breed color! Just saying!

That's so funny, I'm not very familiar with Langshans, so I googled them and found 4 pictures just on the first page of results that look just like Violet!
I didn't see Vern & Ethel's parents myself, I was going by what my friend said they were. His roo could really be just about anything, as he first told me it was a black Orpington. I questioned that because of all the feathery feet, and he said 'well, maybe he's a Cochin'. So, no telling, maybe he's a Langshan!

I should go take a picture of my Langshans...they have a pronounced "U" shape to their backs....but with a cross breeding who knows what would pop up. I am hoping to get that elusive plum colored egg. There is a Langshan breeder in England (UK) that has some that lay a plum egg. I WISH! How lovely would that be in an egg basket!?!
