Favorite Bible verses?

Quote:
The Lord is my shepard, I shall not want
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures..

And then I don't know the rest from memory. How's that for honest!

LOL It's my favorite and I had to 'google' it so as not to mess it up!

And I am still not sure if I DID mess it up!!! I just know that first line gives me comfort, and that pagan gal challenged to post it from memory.

Nothing against pagans - I thought it was a good challenge and reminded me I do NOT know them all.

Just wanted to put in a quick word: the Bible can be as mistranslated as possible, but the Holy Spirit will guide and even tell you that a certain passage was mistranslated, etc.

True. I will keep my own experience to myself, at the risk of others calling me nuts.

Most people know it from funerals. I think that most of the bible was written figuratively; this particular psalm is both figurative and literal. I believe that it was written to be a guide to good health and comfort...

"The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name' sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: For thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever."

Most of the Bible has multiple meanings, literal, figurative and prophetic.

Luke 6:22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.

I don't know that I could pick just a few favorite verses, but here are a couple that I've read recently:

Psalm 71:4 "Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man."

1 John 5:2-5 "2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?"

Samuel Jackson quotes it in that movie Pulp Fiction.

Isiah 40: 31 ~ But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.

Hebrew 11:1~ Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Psalms 62:2 ~ " He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved.

Who can choose just one? There are so many that speak to my heart that it is like children whom are well loved....who can choose a favorite?
