Heres an appropriate one: 2 Timothy 3:1-7.. King James Version

1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

4Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

6For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

7Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Amen Yall

1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever

Refuge and peace that passes all understanding in the hands of the creator...LOVE IT!

Most people know it from funerals. I think that most of the bible was written figuratively; this particular psalm is both figurative and literal. I believe that it was written to be a guide to good health and comfort...

"The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name' sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: For thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever."

Before I became a Christian, I was largely into MMA, and tended to have a short temper and a lot of hatred built up. It only took a bit to set me off and put you "in your place".. After becoming a Christian, I read a verse that just moved something in me and I kept reading it and reading it and reading it. At least once daily, usually more, so much I even printed it out and stuck it on my fridge. That verse says.

Proverbs 12:16 (I believe)
"A fool is quick-tempered, but a wise man stays calm when insulted." Since then I've had a significantly better attitude, don't take much interest in fighting much anymore (based on other verses too), etc. Other verses I try to live off of would probably be ones which imply not to be lazy, which I did tend to be. And I try to be helpful, forgiving, loving, etc regardless of how I am treated.
Matthew 5:44
"But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you"

Proverbs 25:21-22 (AMP):
"If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; For in doing so, you will heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord will reward you. "

I love Proverbs.

My very favorite verse...

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)

My favorite passage...

Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures
: 1 Corinthians 15: 1-4 (KJV)
