Favorite Hatchery???????

we got our first chickens from Ideal, and were very pleased with them.
we bought a few from our local TSC - who also got theirs from Ideal - and were pleased with them too.

We ordered our current batch of Cornish X from Mmcmurray- and they are doing very well, altho we also have some with deformed toes.- but they are walking OK.

I would suggest either Ideal or MMcmurray .

Murray McMurray. I ordered 30 birds last April and lost only one runt. I ordered them straight run, and out of the 30, 17 were hens.

I ordered ducklings a few months ago. They were all dead on arrival. I called them and the customer service was amazing, I was off the phone in under 5 minutes with the promise that they would send me replacements the following week. The shipment arrived and they are all healthy and happy. I ordered them straight run and 8 were females.

So I am one happy customer. I've thought about ordering from Ideal because so many people are happy with them, but they are very far away from me.

since most of mine are from Ideal I would saw Ideal. I have one from Privett.

My next order is going to be from Ideal as they have a better variety then some of the other hatcheries

I hate to burst anyone's bubbles, but all the hatcheries for the large part get their hatching eggs from the same suppliers. Unless you do serious investigative work, there is no assurance of what you are getting. Many are surprised that there isn't a single chicken at most hatcheries, where they simply hatch, distribute and sell day old chicks which they get as eggs from 3rd parties.

Now, there are some exceptions in smaller hatcheries, but you really have to dig deep since most people over the fun don't even get the point of the question.

With this known, it's best to order by proximity, as the less far a chick travels, the better it will be.

This wouldn't surprise me on production birds but bantams, I would be surprised since there seems to be a huge difference between hatcheries in terms of breeds they offer.

:rolleyes:Who knows...One black silkie chick we got can barley walk because of it's toes...

I have only ordered ducks and guineas from Ideal. All were alive when they arived the very next day after shipping. They are now 6 weeks old and look great. I had to call several times to ask questions about care, since this was my first time to ever raise ducks from day old. They were great and very helpful. They also helped me figure out what ducks I recieved since I had ordered a mixed duck special.

Teri (not the one that works there, which I read in a previous post)
