Favorite hen having hard time breathing

Order the med I gave you the link for. It can be mixed into the drinking water to treat the whole flock. It wouldn't hurt since they've been exposed, too.

Or you can treat the flock with copper sulfate and ACV if you can find the copper sulfate.

GREAT! Now a few detailed questions so I get everything exactly right for the girls...first I have a bottle of Fish Zole (250 mg per tablet) in my medicine kit. I have just given her 1/2 tab.
I also have a bag of the copper sulfate in my kit. I have never used either of these things but was advised to have them on hand in the event of a problem. What great advice that was! Anyway, the copper sulfate scares me and I assume that Margie does not need to drink that with the Fish zole tabs, correct? So if I use the fish zole tabs for the whole flock what would be the protocol...dose, term etc? Is it safe for the peacocks too?

No need to be afraid of the copper sulfate. The solution is pretty weak, and the copper sulfate is only deadly to the protozoa.

Mix daily and provide as the only source of water for four days.
  • 2 ½ liters of water
  • 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 gram of copper sulfate
It's too difficult to treat 38 chickens twice a day with the tablets. I'd go with the copper sulfate since you have it. Use a plastic waterer since it's acidic.

You have the dose of the 'zole correct for our single patient. She's going to be just fine.

Yes, safe for pea cocks.

TOTALLY agree on copper sulfate vs. tablets for the flock. Do you have poultry grade copper sulfate? I noticed @azygous is recommending ACV.; is the copper sulfate not already acidified?
Coppers sulfate is not a big mystery. It comes in acidified and regular. The acidified will be white since the only difference is it has had the water removed and there's still water content in the blue copper sulfate. The above mixing instructions are for the blue copper sulfate that still has water in it.

Hmmm... my acidified copper sulfate is blue. Haha! I wonder why?

My flock didn’t like it, so I didn’t use it again.

I have the acidified copper from Animal Science Products. Will Margie be ok if she drinks the water too even tho she will be getting the Fish Zole for 5 days? I have 1 gallon plastic waterers, Im not sure how to convert and get those measurements exact?

I have no idea what the big thing about acidified copper sulfate is, to tell the truth. It does come in several forms, the most common being copper sulfate pentahydrate which is deep blue and still has the water in the crystals. It's safe for animals and humans in highly diluted amounts. If you ingest the crystals (or inhale them as I did a long time ago treating a reservoir on a windy day) it's highly caustic and will do injury. It is a poison when misused.

The other kind has the water removed and is a very light color blue or white. This one has the "animal use" label, but it really does the same thing as the regular blue stuff.

If your chickens refuse to drink it, add some cranberry juice to it to disguise the flavor.
