Favus?

This picture below with white chaulky skin is a severe case of favus. In winter with dry cold weather, many of us see dry or scaly skin on chickens. No treatment for scaly skin is needed, but an antifungal cream such as miconazole is pretty harmless if you have doubts. Sometimes mild peck wounds may turn white and peel while healing. So do you think this is what my hen has? I have an anti-fungal cream that I've applied just in case it actually is this. And I will continue to monitor her. But I've noticed a significant improvement after applying anti-fungal cream to her face and a few of my other hens that have had similar stuff on their faces

It doesn’t hurt to use the cream if it is helping. Miconazole and Clotrimazole are the common antifungal creams. I can’t say if that is favus or not without getting a skin scraping to look at under a microscope. To me it looks more like dry skin though.

Okay, I would do a skin scraping, but my closest avian vet is 2+ hours away. I'll just treat it like such and see how she does and improves. Thanks your your response

When I've applied coconut oil, what ever is on her comb wipes off. Does Favus wipe off? And I haven't seen any progression. I'll take more pictures this evening

No, favus which is a fungus, does not wipe off.
Also, had another hen that when I applied coconut oil to, she has a pea comb and had skin peeling off. No bleeding, it just rubbed right off. And would come away in small pieces. Kind of like when you have glue stuck to your hand and you peel it off.

Had a vet come out and do a skin scraping. Saw no evidence of fungus or yeast. He did some research and the issue was most likely face mites. And I've already been treating with ivermectin. They'll receive third dose this Saturday.
