FAWN STUCK IN MY FENCE

Called the sheriff, but I have no idea how long THAT will take nor how long it's been stuck. It's still alive, from what I can tell.

Wondering if hubs and I should go try to free it ourselves???
Give it a try. Unfortunately we've had to free several fawns that were stuck. What kind of fence?

Edited to add- if it's not wire that you can easily cut, pull the fawn out backwards, they most often get stuck in the middle because their hips are wider than their shoulders. Best not to pull by the legs as they can be dislocated.

Oh what a morning!

Got the little guy out. His face was actually stuck, and had twisted himself into the netting like a screw. I got his ears and nose free and cut the one wire that has lodged itself under his chin. He got up and limped off, but his back leg looked injured - possibly dislocated somehow.

His mama and sibling were there but took off once we got down to where the little fella was caught in the fence. Mama went uphill. Little fella went downhill. I hope she comes back and finds him.

It's electric netting, and it was working, but one section was disconnected. We don't know if it was disconnected as a result of the deer trying to free itself, or if it got disconnected somehow yesterday. I check the fence every morning when I let my goats out for the day. Now I will check it every night, too.

I feel bad. If I'd checked the fence last night, it might not have gotten stuck.

You can't blame yourself for something that happened before. You never had a problem with this prior, so you didn't know this was going to happen. :hugs

Glad you got the little fella out. Hopefully, he recovers okay and is back with Momma.
Deputy said it was the best possible outcome.

Well, dammit, I'm going to make sure it is less likely to happen again! I will be vigilant about that fence.

We are always careful about making sure the deer have paths around it. We moved it again after this and widened the path near where he got stuck. I hope that he recovers, and if he does, that he'll remember to stay away from those fences!
