Fawn With Bloody Stool?? Help Please!!!!

I think its a she drank a little more than half a bottle this morning but she was struggling the whole time and it was more of a force feeding than anything else, will this wear off or will she just keep struggling every time?

I can tell you where the flak about milk replacer comes from. Experience. I have bred and shown dairy goats for over 40 years and had a commercial goat dairy for many of those years. Milked over 100 head. On occasion I fed replacer. I found out the following. Replacers vary a whole lot in quality. Also, some kids do well on replacers and others simply cannot tolerate any replacer. They get the scours and/or blow up and die. I found that the pricey replacers made just for kids were not worth the money. Kids blow up and die just as fast on them as they do on calf replacers. I found that a premium calf replacer worked as well as anything, and diluting the replacer half and half with milk worked even better. The only reason to feed replacer at all is for economic reasons, and for one or two babies, it just isn't worth it.

Are you stimulating her to toilet before you offer the bottle?

Also, play around with different teats, and different temperatures of milk (bit too hot, bit too cool etc think goldilocks) till you find what she likes

Cassie ... I'm not gonna get into a fight over this. I stand by what I've said - you can raise babies successfully with no problems on milk replacer provided you:

- use a whole milk (not soy) replacer
- use at the very least 20:20 but its far better 25:20 or 25:25
- dont overfeed (dont feed too much or too often)
- hygiene, hygiene, hygiene
- tackle any health problems early

Yes I got her to go to the bathroom the poo looks good not runny or anything. She likes it better when she sucks on my finger and I run milk down my finger and she actually drinks that or if its on her fur or the towl she is laying on she licks it off. The vet said he had better luck with a bowl than a bottle.

Hey, if it works then keep doing it!

Actually, you might be able to get her to drink from a bowl by letting her suck your finger then immersing your hand in the milk. I tend to avoid bowl/bucket feeding but if they refuse to take the bottle then it leaves you with no choice!

Make sure she's peeing too

Thanks everyone for your awesome help!!!

I use a pritchard nipple to feed the fawn (red nipple, yellow cap.) He takes it perfect!!

His stool is getting better, I have switched him to whole milk as my vet suggested. I also gave him scour meds. His stool is still runny but not nearly as bad as yesterday!!

As for it being illegal, I have a permit.

I will keep everyone posted!! Thank you so much for your help and concern!!!!!
