FDA raids Amish Farm

Apparently it's ok to sell Raw milk around here because I see it advertised at various farms.
I'm pretty sure our local natural food store sells it too. It's appropriately labeled as such.

Not sure what the actual laws are. The article the OP referenced didn't actually say anything about raw milk being the issue though.

The Amish around here use electricity and technology for their business but not their homes. The most common ones here are the ones with the black buggies(there are several different orders of Amish).

No Amish expert here, just live amongst them.

The amount of technology varies from one Amish community to the next. Just depends on how strict of a sect they belong to.

Well from the way the article read and the quotes from the FDA agents, they were focused on milk production, and with the limited use of technology employed by the Amish, I would imagine they produce all raw milk. The Amish will use technology as long as it doesn't become a detriment to their way of life.

Along the lines of raw milk, in looking up laws regarding the stuff I found a site that has a listing of raw milk sellers. They offer this interesting bit of information.
Raw milk is Nature’s perfect food and is extremely important for the developing brains and nervous systems of infants and children. Furthermore, in many children not fortunate enough to have started life on raw milk, raw milk given later in childhood has cured autism, behavior problems, frequent infections, deafness, asthma and allergies and other serious health conditions. Please bear in mind that any move you make to stop or hinder a raw dairy operation will actually HARM, not help the infants and children who rely on that milk, and may make it difficult for all children to obtain this milk in the future--including your own children and grandchildren. An interruption in supply can be VERY detrimental to a growing infant or sick child who has no other options.

I have to wonder about people sometimes. Raw milk cures autism, deafness and behavioral problems?

Really now. Yeah it is healthy, as long as it comes from a healthy cow, but come on, let's be realistic.

What bothers me about this is..the govt is taking away our rights. Our right to choose..
Its 2010... we ALL know the risks with raw milk.(small as the risks are..there is still a slight risk...)...
WHY not let people choose for themselves if they want to drink raw milk or not?? WHY is it the govts decision what i flippin drink!!!??
Ugh..just irks me...

Well, could be. All the amish that live around here have electricity in their barns. But like I said they are the ones with the black buggies(as opposed to the white and brown buggies - different orders). They own a huge portion of the farm land here too. If a working farm(or any farm for that matter) goes up for auction it is almost always purchased by Amish. It's difficult to buy a farm here because the Amish always outbid anyone else.
I'm pretty sure most of them pasteurize their milk here. Not 100% sure though - I'll ask around and find out - I'm curious now.

I will be realistic for you

We had a family living with us for awhile, that had many problems, including mild autism, and full blown Bipolar.
We only drink raw milk, and part of the rules that we set in place, was that the food I prepared was what was eaten in our home.
We do eat very healthy, and they enjoyed the food, but it was the milk that was guzzled like crazy.
We were intrigued to see complete changes in all the issues that these people came with.
Everything became normal, and for the 3 months that they were here, all was good.
It was after they left, and quite eating and drinking the real stuff, that they totally regressed

We also know of families that experienced total changes in violent behaviors and ADHD, when the only change that was made, was drinking raw milk.

THis family does produce all raw milk. We are aquainted with a customer of theirs.

The supposed issue that was used to raid them, was so called interstate sales, even though they do not sell out of state.
