There seem to be a lot of “what gender is this? threads, and I do like looking at the pics that everyone posts to help figure it all out. I understand that years of experience let many of you reply with certainty, “that’s a cockerel!” but without explaining what features you see that make it obvious.
So, I wonder if there is a list of physical features, short of crowing, that help us decide cockerel or pullet. Can you help make a list?
Such as: neck feather shape, comb coloring or development, posture, leg structure, tail feather appearance... there must be more.
I understand that much of this varies between breeds, but some must be a given, rt?
