Hi everyone! We have not posted before, long overdue. But we could use some advice: our tiny 8 week old silkie has two feathers growing out under her foot. The feathers originate along the side of her foot but stick down and under rather than out. One has folded as a result. She is still okay, not limping. Although we suspect they cannot be comfortable. Has anyone had this problem and what can we do before this becomes a real issue for her? She is a brave amazing little thing, keeping up (with some indoor breaks) with much larger birds.

Can you post a picture?
Hello! You can see it best in the first one, tried to get a few angles. It almost looks like she might have a small extra toe-like growth with 3 feathers growing at uncomfortable angles. The other foot is fine, just a line of feathers along the outer edge of her foot.

i have never clipped a feather! one hits the blood vessel near the skin, yes? so would you do that and stench the bleeding and keep it clean? do you think that seems dangerous in terms of infection. or i could clip higher up? but then perhaps that would have little benefit?

It shouldn't bleed. If it does, just use some cornstarch to stop the bleeding.
