I would suspect pecking from another bird, or possibly overmating. Has she molted recently?

Thank you so much for your reply! I only 19 pullets, so overmating would not be an issue. Pecking definitely could be an issue. I'm planning on expanding their outdoor space, so hopefully that would help! I just really wanted to rule out lice/mites.

I'm not thinking mites, although it wouldn't hurt to check. I would look around the vent for a tiny blackish bug.
