noticed that barny the Brahma cockeral looks like he's damaged his feet - almost looks like he ripped the feathers on his feet- any ideas? its his right foot, and some of the feathers there are stubs now, he doesn't seem to be in pain, but there is some inflamation

Our feather-footed hens will often get ingrown feathers in their feet. Some times they will have feathers torn out of their feet that will bleed (I've found that foot-wounds bleed a lot!) and may get minor infections. I just clean the wound, put some triple antibiotic ointment on it, and sometimes bandage it if they are bleeding enough. I just figure that it's a hazard for feather-footed birds. I don't know if this is what's wrong with your bird, but I hope it helps!

thanks for the info, he wouldn't let me put any kind of cream on them, so for tonite i sprayed peroxide on them, we are snowed in so i had to use what was on hand- when i checked tonite they don't look as red- so hopefully that will keep it under control- what it kind of looks like is he got his feather caught on something and a couple of them are only about 1/2 inch long, looks like they were broken off... he isn't too crazy about being handled, but when i do hold him he relaxes-
