feathers are ruined!!!

So my mom thought it would be cute to put my rooster in a small wire cage and when i finally noticed it this morning his feathers were all messed up. Mainly the main tail feathers, but also what got damaged were the sickles and the lesser sickles. I tried to make them look nice again with just running my fingers through the feathers but that didnt work. Any suggestions? I think the only way to save his feathers now is to cut them off and let them grow back in?

you should let him preen himself first, i personally wouldnt cut any feathers....

He should moult in the fall and get a fresh start in time for the show.
