Hello!

My 1 year old Ameracauna has had a dirty bottom for a few weeks. I wish I had taken a closer look sooner, but was hoping it would resolve itself. We finally cleaned it today by soaking in lukewarm water with a little epsom salt, and gently removing the clumps, then clipping some of the feathers around the vent. I put a bit of antibiotic ointment. Perhaps anti fungal would have been more appropriate? Do you think it's vent gleet?

There does seem to be a very faint funky smell. Her behavior has seemed normal. She forages voraciously, has good energy, alertness, and posture.

Here's a little video, and below that a picture.

Thank you!

Her vent looks pretty normal to me. She probably had some diarrhea that caked on the feathers. You did the right thing, cleaning her up, and trimming the feathers helps to keep her clean. Keep an eye out for continuing diarrhea, but if that is not a problem, then, no worries. Diarrhea can come and go, depending on diet, if it doesn't it should be addressed.
