Feathers! What do you all do with those beautiful feathers?

Last fall I noticed all the beautiful Muscovy feathers that littered my grandmother's lawn and thought it was a shame to just leave them all to the cats to play with. My grandmother, our friends, and I all like to smudge with sage. I was in a shop one day and noticed how expensive "smudge-wands" were, all for a single painted turkey feather with some baubles attached, if that! So, inspiration hit, I could make my own! I'm all about big bling so I wasn't going to just use 1 feather! I collected all the best ones, matched up colors and braided them together using hemp and beads. They came out neat giving that quasi wing appearance. After giving them to friends and family, and keeping one for myself I was about out so I keep my eyes peeled for more awesome feathers to make more and try selling them later. Another big plus for me is that they are all just the molted feathers, no duckies were harmed in the making. That was my idea for the feathers.

P.S. I am really excited and waiting for the feathers to start dropping off the new geese in our flock, a Toulouse and brown African!

Ever hear the Name Vincent Wilcox?

I do believe so... I am an obsessed (on he verge of clinical really) with fly tying and have been since I was 8yrs old. I have a HUGE flock that I am raising simply for tying purposes. Anyone have some really nice and pure grey jungle cock birds that they would like to let go of?????????

never heard the name but i will look it up.my roo has some feathers that would make a nice badger quill i have been tying for around three years.

I fish and tie lots of flat wing streamers and such and have several roos that will find a wonderful place in my arsenal of materials. I also work at a deer camp for a couple months in the fall so I bring home more bucktails than one man should be allowed to have.

My little sisters send them to my grandmother! she called me after receiving 200 wing feathers that they had been saving, to ask me if they were hinting that they wanted her to make something with them. I said no they are just obsessed!
