Don't really know about the broody, could be miscalculated the date? I would leave them under her, sometimes they are late. The ones in the bator will hopefully catch up, might cause them to hatch a little late- just have to wait & see. I have a brinsea also, mines the mini advance. I only use it for lockdown- hatch, but it seems reliable.CAN MY HATCHES BE SAVED?
Hi. I joined this group a few weeks back and posted a few times, but holy cow, I just can't keep up with all the msgs here, lol.
Today I have a few questions of my own.
1) I have a broody on 7 eggs. They were due to hatch yesterday. One hatched during the day and one overnight. How long should I leave the remaining eggs in hopes that they will hatch? It's interesting that the only ones that have hatched so far are the ones I did not ever candle. I'm wondering if I handled the others too much. I candled only 4 times, tho. There was movement in some of the ones that have not hatched as late as the last candle over the weekend, tho I only candled 2 of the 7 that day.
2) I have 20 more eggs in the incubator. I took the word of the person I got it from that it was calibrated, so even tho my thermometer showed temp a little low (95 not 99) I trusted the brinsea thermostat. (I know, rookie mistake but...well, I'm a rookie.) Put eggs in to start on Saturday pm. Candled just a few (6?) yesterday saw minimal development in some and no dev in others. Put another thermometer in there and it, too, showed 95 degrees. I turned up the brinsea thermostat to 102 in order to get temp up on auxilary thermometer to 99. Will that much temp difference affect the early development? And if so, is there hope that the eggs can 'catch up' now? Should I wait til say, sunday, then candle and toss duds?
TIA for all the expert advice I'm sure to get!
Maah this is the pens I got. They are temp in this spot. We have to tear down the old fence in back, them add onto these pens with lg run areas. But it got the chicks outside for now. DH did put in elec. for me. I put 25W blue bulbs for heat inside the roost box. This whole pen will become the roost & laying area when we are done. Plus gonna raise them up to full height, then enclose them in the big covered run- that's the plan. I have one simular to these coming in soon. I want a seperate pen/run per breed. As I said b/f DH might be regretting his wanting to get chickens again![]()

Now for the bantams- I have NO clue what kind they are, they're all feather footed- Oh the bigger chicks in the pics are Sugar Peeps & the 2 sb d'uccle. I put them in w/ the little ones cause they were scared of the bigger lav chicks.
