FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

OK, so yesterday i was infuriated when I had some beautiful eggs ruined because my mailman delivered stuff that was *clearly* packaged with labels to hold for pick up AND that contact was to be made upon delivery....

package: (you know, the one that was crushed, soaked, and sitting in the cold at my front door yesterday)

my husband said, CALL! complain! do something!! But, I let it go bc I had extra eggs still....

SO....TODAY....I have TWO packages that are HOLD FOR PICK UP!! With my phone number written all over the boxes....

DELIVERED to my house....

this was my lovely surprise:

two different packages....
HALF of my eggs are RUINED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I called and flipped out on the 800 number for the USPS...i have a case opened now!! This is ridiculous! Even my mom just came over and was so upset by the carnage!

I hate to even tell the person who sent me these eggs what happened.

On a happier note, look what hubby has made for me!!!

Now I have a question:
The eggs that are covered in yolk and egg white, they are BAD dirty and sticky and nasty. I know you shouldnt wash eggs before incubating, so what would you do in this case?
That is really awful. So sorry for the bad luck The PO should follow the instructions marked on the package for sure I would have been mad too. But Im gonna mention and with lack of other pics to know for sure im gonna say In my opinion the eggs looked to not be properly packaged for shipping. It may have been the sellers fault not the PO. I see your eggs in egg cartons with not much bubble wrap. Each egg should have been individually wrapped in bubble wrap again in my opinion. This is how I received my shipped eggs last month, not a single crack.

OH AND LOVE YOUR NEW HOMEMADE BATOR!!!

Ameraucana chick #4 has just popped the top off it's shell and is chirping cause it's still in the thing. Got two Australorp beaks sticking out of the shell, the 3rd has broken the shell but not progressed any further, and there are two more Ameraucanas which have cracked the shell but not any further and there are 3 eggs with no sign of a shell break yet, but then, today is the due date.

Yay!!

I have the baby that hatched yesterday in there & I'm expecting another tomorrow. Val is so cute! She has furry Brahma feet like her mama :) The 1st one doesn't :)

Congrats!! Keep the updates coming.

We have chicky! At least one more behind this one not yet fluffy and an egg with a beak sticking out! But it is so hot here today - 35 c but humid too - thunder storm on the way.

Super cutie! Congrats!

the pic above with the eggs in that red bubble wrap (which looks awesome, btw) is hopw probably half my eggs have come. in that set up I have only had one cracked egg out of a few dozen. The eggs from yesterday could have used more bubble wrap for sure, but in the sellers defense, she is pretty new to shipping, and, I am on the end of the mail route for my mailman and he/she is often a BRUTE with packages...and lazy! I seen many times over the holidays where he/she would leave BIG packages teetering in between two mailboxes (side by side mail boxes) and the two neighbors would be left to honestly decide who is belonged to. *sigh* But yes, the packaging above (your pic) is I think, the most ideal way of packing!

ETA: the new bator works great so far....maybe TOO great....lol....luckily I have learned a *tiny* bit of patience so far in this hatching game, so I waited all night to leave it on and see where we were....turns out, the 25w bulb made the thermometer max out at over 120* within a few hours....soooo....gonna try a 15w today. Any ideas on how to keep the temp down? This is a small foam cooler (it's an Omaha Steaks cooler....and no...sadly it wasn't me chowing down on Omaha steaks) and it is only about 2ft/18" in size. (the plus side is, is by being patient this week it only cost me 4.00 to make it so far! lol!!!)

We went to TSC yesterday and I bought 6 little babies!!!! I got 4 Straight run chicks, The sign said Gold sex link. I don't know about that, 1 banty it said assorted, so I don't know what breed, it has feathers on its legs, and 1 out of the pullet bin, it said assorted, but from the looks of it I think it may be RIR, but I am not sure!!!!! They are so cute! Here are some pics!

This is the little banty with the feathered legs! He is so adorable!!!

My son holding one of them, he is so excited!

My step daughter holding the banty, she named him peppy!
