Calm down, you're gonna give yourself & me a stroke! LOL it's gonna be fine- I actually run my humidity kind of high during lockdown b/c I had issues in the past hatches w/ shrink wrap chicks- but you are doing great, just take a deep breath & sit on your hands

As expected yesterday, the humidity dropped a LOT after taking out the mat and now I am struggling to keep it above 40%....this is horrible!!!

Well now for my update- this morning I lost one of my new basque chicks. It was the last to hatch, very large chick! It took way too long to hatch, and no I didn't help- I should have , but didn't. It seemed fine until late last night, it just never gained strength. The other 8 chicks are great, running around eating & drinking.

We spent the whole day staining the new chicken house, hooking up electric to it etc. I moved all the SFH's into it, then moved all the lav orp chicks into their house & the choco orp chicks to thiers. Now all I have inside it Sugar Peeps, the TSC chicks, 3 choc orp chicks & 8 basque. It's so much quieter and smells good LOL! The chicks were so happy when they got moved to their outside houses too

Now it's pouring down rain, after we had such a beautiful day- should have known it wouldn't last...

Ugh, dont get me started on this RAIN!!! I had to change the shade screen on the girl's run yesterday to an orange construction screen with big 2" holes bc I went out there (62* and sunny) and was working on the rabbit set up and coop with Brian and almost threw up! I even told Brian if *i* was my neighbor I would be pi**ed! The run was muddy sludge from literally MONTHS of rain now. I gotta do some research on lime for runs and pine straw, but for now, we put the other top on to allow more sun to hit the run....annnnd now it's supposed to rain....again....today....and tomorrow. *sigh*

Here's my update! I put 23 out of 25 eggs into lockdown last night!!!! I am so excited, and nervous!!!!!!!

And here's a few pics of my babies! We made a top for our plastic tote brooder so that the older ones couldn't fly out, they have been looking and trying to jump out! I also put a couple of homemade roosts in the brooder with them too! I put the younger almost week old chicks with the older about 2 week old chicks together and they are doing great! No fighting or anything!!!! Gotta get my second brooder ready for my eggs to hatch!!!!!

Congrats to everyone with new babies!!!!! Such an exciting time!!!!! Love all the pics!!!!!!
YAY Jp!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is a great thing you are doing! Such a wonderful gift for him. Has the staff caught on to the duckling yet or are you still sneaking it in your pocket?

Yahoo! Good luck!!

I understand about the smell. I change their pine bedding every day. It smells got for 5seconds then someone has to go and poo on it. Lol

Have you tried using the horse pellet bedding. I switched over from shavings to the pellets and there is no smell. Best part is depending on the number of chicks you have you don't have to change it out for a long time. It disintegrates their poop and has a very nice smell to it. The pellets are too big for the chicks to eat and if it does get wet it poofs up.

Sorry you lost a basque chick, but so glad the others are doing great! Sounds like you are going to have chickens coming out of your ears over there! Awesome!!

So with 3 coops outside, and chicks in all of them with still more in your house... are you getting more coops? What are you going to do with your Peeps, TSC, Choc Orp, Basque, & Frizzle chicks? Maybe they'd like to share the bed. Can't get much closer to down comforters & pillows than that! LOL.

I know right? They just kill me w/ the smell

I change my pine bedding daily too in the brooders- but geez the have stinky poop! I did read somewhere that some feed companies have an additive in their feed to 'reduce' poop odor- I can tell you that Dumor is NOT one of those companies! And even the chick starter feed has an odor- smells like sour milk! The finisher feed does not have that smell, and my bigger chicks that are eating it don't have as stinky of poop either-

I have heard this about the Dumor-makes really stinky poop.

Thank you peach and maahbeaker!!!!!!!
peach - I know about the rain!!!! It poured here saturday, was sunny sunday and now It's raining here again today and suppose to rain tomorrow! I feel so sorry for my chickens outside, we have tried to build there run up so that it doesn't get muddy, but then they did holes, and where they have dug the holes is just squishy! And the smell out there when it's wet is awful!!!!!! I am so ready to get our new coop and run finished, we put it on higher ground!
