FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

Jar is still full of water, added wet sponge next to it and moved tube to sponge instead. Watch the humidity go back into the 70s now. *sigh*

eta: #4 is absolutely moving!! That's one of my tiny little sizzle eggs!!!

Hey!

We kind of went hog wild with the incubating the beginning of this season. We currently are incubating:

7- Bourbon Red Turkeys
10- Royal Palm Turkeys
17- Mallard or Indian Runner Duck Eggs
37- "Barnyard mix" chickens from a friend
6- "Barnyard mix" ducks from same friend
24- Ancona Ducks
6- Lavender Orphingtons
16- Blue Swedish Ducks
24- Jumbo Pekins

Don't what in the world we are going to do with them all if we have a miraculous 100% hatch rate (ha!), but I am sure my wife will think of a way to keep them- and involve me in building another pen!

They are all due at various dates- between March 6-March 22

Sorry you lost a basque chick, but so glad the others are doing great! Sounds like you are going to have chickens coming out of your ears over there! Awesome!!

So with 3 coops outside, and chicks in all of them with still more in your house... are you getting more coops? What are you going to do with your Peeps, TSC, Choc Orp, Basque, & Frizzle chicks? Maybe they'd like to share the bed. Can't get much closer to down comforters & pillows than that! LOL.

I now have 4 coops outside- and I found on ebay a company in new orleans that is selling coops for local pickup only. It's about a 2 hour round trip for me, but we're gonna go get 2 of them. I don't need them yet. I have Peeps & all the little chicks together in a brooder box. And NO they can't share the bed- it's already taken up w/ DH, me & 5 of the 7 dogs!

i have the PDZ (went through a whole bag now) not resolved yet

i would have to open it to put another sponge in. i can access any spot in there to place a sponge unless it is opened.

Open it just to put the warm wet sponge in- that's what I do during lockdown- as long as you are just adding warm water to the sponge you can do that. Just do it quickly

Thanks Rox, I sure hope I do. There are chicks in there so if we get anything we will get basque, rir, wleg, ee, wy. They will be mixed but sure will be cute!!

Can you expand on the horse pellets, I put down hay and pine bedding in my big coop but right now it has gotten so wet again. There outside run is under water again. I literally was stuck at least 5minutes in the mud yesterday while feeding the rabbit and guinea pig. I was outside by myself without my phone. I had to work and work to get my foot free. No one even knew I was stuck till I came in and my mom said what took you so long....I'm so tired of this rainy cold weather.

So where can I get these horse pellets, cost, what are they called. I have a TSC, and feednstores where I live...thanks for the info

Don't use hay- it just makes a bigger stinky mess! I've seen the horse pellets @ TSC & my local feed store- not sure of the cost, but I'm going to try it too.

Wow that is GREAT!

woke up @ 4am, could not go back to sleep even tho I was so tried & sore from all the work outside... anyway, I decided to candle the duck & frizzle again- only 1 call duck egg that I can see the little quacker moving. 2 of the others i see the veining, but no movement- the 3rd looks like it quit, not enough development- so I might only have 1 go to lockdown- that sucks! and my frizzle eggs don't look any better- that is so depressing! the frizzles lockdown is tomorrow- guess I'll put them in the hatch bator & just see what happens- double sucks

The lady I got the sultan/polish eggs from has not mailed them yet!

I woke up to a baby.

They are due tomorrow. I have some pips going on.

I can't believe my monster egg has pipped! It's a HUGE egg! I was candling last week and had to yell at DH to come here. You could see the foot clear as day, and it was huge! I really didn't expect that big egg to make it far, even when I saw it was fertile. The air sac goes up most of one side of it. I hope it makes it, seems like it will, it has pipped more since early thing morning. Can't wait, hope it is healthy. Here's a picture to show you how big this egg is.
