Ugh, dont get me started on this RAIN!!! I had to change the shade screen on the girl's run yesterday to an orange construction screen with big 2" holes bc I went out there (62* and sunny) and was working on the rabbit set up and coop with Brian and almost threw up! I even told Brian if *i* was my neighbor I would be pi**ed! The run was muddy sludge from literally MONTHS of rain now. I gotta do some research on lime for runs and pine straw, but for now, we put the other top on to allow more sun to hit the run....annnnd now it's supposed to rain....again....today....and tomorrow. *sigh*
Throw another sponge or washcloth in there. When I have a real problem keeping the humidity up I will actually take boiling water and add that. Brings the humidity right up and then I just add as needed.

Go to TSC and get some PDZ(I think that's what it's called.) It's a powder you can sprinkle down.Your odor problems will be resolved.

Thank you peach and maahbeaker!!!!!!!
peach - I know about the rain!!!! It poured here saturday, was sunny sunday and now It's raining here again today and suppose to rain tomorrow! I feel so sorry for my chickens outside, we have tried to build there run up so that it doesn't get muddy, but then they did holes, and where they have dug the holes is just squishy! And the smell out there when it's wet is awful!!!!!! I am so ready to get our new coop and run finished, we put it on higher ground!
you are not *too* far from me!

Well I candled my broodies eggs, I see one that has great potential but still not quite sure. I only brought 2 in to see what if anything was going on. The two I brought in there is defentaly a chick in both, but they're not moving, I see no internal pips or anything. So I'm just wondering if we will get anything. I just looked at the calendar and we will have to wait till after spring break to set more under somebody, so our luck no one will want to sit. I guess we will have to just wait and see.

But I still have 42 eggs in bator, humidity is 35-40%, temp is 99.5-100, I am trying to turn them at the same time everyday, going on day 4. So I guess they are doing fine? I got everyone all shut up again, on lockdown outside, weather is coming in again

It may go down for a second but if your washrag is really soaking wet with very warm water it will go up FAST!I
If you are in lockdown you really have to do that or something as you are too low at 40 Good Luck!.

Thanks Rox, I sure hope I do. There are chicks in there so if we get anything we will get basque, rir, wleg, ee, wy. They will be mixed but sure will be cute!!

Can you expand on the horse pellets, I put down hay and pine bedding in my big coop but right now it has gotten so wet again. There outside run is under water again. I literally was stuck at least 5minutes in the mud yesterday while feeding the rabbit and guinea pig. I was outside by myself without my phone. I had to work and work to get my foot free. No one even knew I was stuck till I came in and my mom said what took you so long....I'm so tired of this rainy cold weather.

So where can I get these horse pellets, cost, what are they called. I have a TSC, and feednstores where I live...thanks for the info :)

TSC has them for $5 bag right now. They are called "Horse Pelletized bedding." One bag is the same as a bag of shavings. The pellets actually swell and turn into saw dust when they get wet.

and I swear #4 is moving!!!!! I sat not even breathing watching through the window late last night and it wiggled a few times!!! I dont think I will accomplish ANYTHING this week!! I cant wait to see who Little Si will be!!

Have you tried using the horse pellet bedding. I switched over from shavings to the pellets and there is no smell. Best part is depending on the number of chicks you have you don't have to change it out for a long time. It disintegrates their poop and has a very nice smell to it. The pellets are too big for the chicks to eat and if it does get wet it poofs up.
I've seen that type of bedding, but not used it b/f
I'm gonna have to try that!
