FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

the other prob I had was I use my brinsea mini advance for lockdown/hatch- I had 9 lg eggs in there, no room for them to move- so in the climbing around, the chick was like rolling them all! after the first 3 hatched & were removed they then had enough room. good thing is the brinsea seems to hold the temp/humidity very well, plus I do run my humidity higher than most for my hatches. I don't really recommend doing this, it's just what happened for me

alot of the babies aren't even dry all the way yet either, but I've got my brooder ready to go when the time comes!!!!! I can't believe that 16 has hatched I didn't believe that half of them would, being my luck!!!!

It's wonderful! But if using the auto turner, you can only do 7 eggs- without turner I BARELY fit 9 basque eggs. I just with it were the big brinsea- but then again, I've taught myself how to do stagered hatches this way too

I just got a gqf 1502 .. It holds up to 300 eggs.. Craiglist find for 150$. From the sounds of it you would suffocate under the pile of chicks you would hatch if you had something this big!!

that is the flaw w/ me using the brinsea mini- it holds humidity so well that it's very hard for chicks to dry. so what I do is give them some time to recover from hatching, then move them to my brooder box. I have a brinsea ecoglow in a clear plastic tote. I have circles cut out of the top for air flow, once I put them under the ecoglow they are usually completely dry & fluffed in 30 - 40 min. They seem to really like the ecoglow too

Hey guys, 1 chick hatched. 1 still "almost out". Many more pipped. My water is about to run dry, and I think its to risky to use a straw. There are 2 pipped eggs right below hole and one is fighting hard. If I mess up it will get drenched. I'm not going to open it up at this point. What to do?

I'm figuring that the wet chicks will keep the humidity up. But for another 24 hours? I will probably remove birds in the morning. But I doubt they will all have hatched by then. They technically aren't due till tomorrow (still day 20) and some aren't pipped yet, but I had wanted to wait 23 days to make sure. I'll have to add water before then.

Edit: I fixed the water. 2nd chick is out!

Ok I candled my eggs today why? Because I am going out of town for two day and my family is freaking out. But anyways. 22 eggs so I start candling clear, clear, clear, clear, seriously clear. Like I am freaking out here. Noo not me. Not now. So keep candling clear, clear, clear. Oh no really. None of my sea rights took! Ahhhhhh. So I move on. Finally have great veining still and egg is getting fuller. Whew. This is my bannie row. Here we go again. Clear, clear. This is so depressing. So next row are my friends eggs. Just two from his game chickens. Looking great! Fantastic! So next row are some I bought on the side of the road. He said he would not guarantee fertility. But I said let's try. I will take a dozen. Came home and cracked one open cus it was already cracked fertile! Who hoo. So candled them. Looking great till I come to the biggest egg. Blood ring. Ahh man really. Bummer. So off to my girls eggs. Yes yes yes. Oh what a relief. I still have some left.
How stressful. So leave on Friday and come back on sat night just in time for lockdown # 1 I am so excited and scared at the same time!
