I here chirps from the bator!!! I'm doing a hatch for the first time in the egg carton cause they are shipped eggs and hate it so far!!! I can't see movement or if the pip the opposite side of the egg or the wrong end....AHHHHH!!
I'm more nervous this time that something will go wrong because of being in an egg carton!!

Should I take then out of the carton?? Help!!
Yay chirps!!!!

First be patient. It is nerve wracking. It takes time to get it all right and while you are ...check the temp Often!!!.
Unless you have a Brineas or a Genesis you will have these issue
.
If it spiked for minutes it may not have hurt them as its takes them a while to warm up.

You do have to dinker with the temp .but every time you move the setting do it just a tiny bit and leave it for an hour or 2 so see where it takes you Then ajust more tiny bit at a time. You might try some washed rocks in the bator to sinc it so it wont cool fast on you anyway

Also sounds silly but mine did that at first ... then i put mine in.... my closet
.Read on here to do that ..but i thought I didnt have a draft problem but my closet settled the temp swings down a LOT
Unfortunately the better the bator is the more it costs.

HOWEVER if you are adventurous.. talk to Brookhaven she made one and i think you can do it for like$40 or $60 tops..Maybe less if you have some of the parts like an old computer its fan ...and an old cooler..
,You tube has videos on how to make them too.
Brook says hers is really reliable but you do need a temp gauge that ajusts the temp so it wont go too high . or low ..and a few other things. She is right though it does take awhile to know how your bator reacts and what to do
Thank you so much!! I love having my incubator next to my bed, and being home all day helps me keep an eye on them....but also makes it insanely hard not to touch!!! And no, I am not adventurous with all that can cause my house to "catch far" but maybe one day I will be more confident! Burnt the hell out of myself earlier again....that "tssss" sound that is your skin adhering to the heat source is never fun.

Luckily I have a ton of bow orders to keep me off my eggs tonight ;) I hope to candle Sunday evening for the first real time

I can't wait!!! Really....I don't think I can. LOL!!

Ok here are my Isbar babies! Still in the shell, but doing GREAT!!! I am so happy they are doing so well. They are big chicks. I've had to help a tiny bit, even w/ humidity up the membrane dries so I q-tip warm water on it & roll back onto the shell. Seems to free them up a little. No blood, veins are drying up well. Sorry 2nd pic blurry- more pics later as progress made

I keep burning my self on the screw on the outside trying to get a good view of all the eggs. I think when I build my bator or at least a hatcher one I am going to put mirrors all over the place so I can see the eggs at all angles!!!

Me too!! And that's a great idea!! Would actually workout better this hatch, if I could just keep the bator in my lap, cause leaning out to my night stand is hurting my arm and shoulder! Lol

U

Ugh I know this but I'm stubborn and freaking out!! Lol

I did open it to make sure there wasn't any pips I couldn't see and found the chirper...no external pip just internal and the one that's chirping has the worst air cell of them all!! It's a huge "u" and he started of chirping so loud and I couldn't hear anything for a while and the only way I heard it chirp when I opened was to delicately put it to my ear!

Yes, I know I shouldn't have opened but I threw warm wash clothes and sponge in there to keep the humidity up.

Do I assist at a certain point since its air cell is so huge??
NO hes fine.
The air cell doesnt matter now that he has internally pipped
If you assist it will kill him,
.Leave him alone
He has veins to absorb and yolk to absorb
When hes almost done with that he will make a star crack in the shell then he will not do much probably for a long time after as hes getting use to using his lungs... then he will often after some hours maybe even 12 zip there are still veins to absorb Even while zipping. if you open the shell he will bleed to death

Assisting is a last ditch effort when you are POSITIVE he can not hatch himself.
.
He has to rest. Its a hard job to hatch and most chicks dont do it in a 1/2 hour. or hour even although some do but most dont Usually many hours .
