Well, I have learned my lession. No more paper towel in the incubator at lock down. I'll use the rubber lining from now on. The one hatched chick that is still in the incubator is doing pretty well. Keeps her legs under her while she exercising them. Good to know that it might clear up yet on the other 2. I'll give it until tomorrow so they'll have a full day on this new wall to wall deluxe flooring. LOL. They are both eating & drinking though, but mostly are quite lethargic & sleepy. I'd better fully investigate my banding options for small feather legs though in the mean time.

My "early to pip, late to hatch" chick is in the process of zipping right now! It's been zipping for about 1/2 hour & is about 1/2 way around.

35 hours so far though! All I gotta say is that this one has got to be a girl! Keeping me waiting and anxious while she piddles around at her own pace. Yup, pretty sure it'll be a girl. **well, I hope they all are**

Im about to go in and candle my first ever home grown eggs.
I feel butterflys will they be fertile or not? .Hope i can tell at day 7((IS THAT ALL IT IS?) Wanted to wait until day 10 i can tell then for SURE. but sigh ...cant.
Brown so not that easy..but too anxious so will do both HAHA.
Put more in today thats 36 of my own and 8 of shipped ,,,,,Should get SOMETHING!!

Edited ; I was so nervous... out of 12....10 looked good one a little small inside slow grower or quiter? and one i think is a no go. but i am really excited for so many good and only one not fertile possibly!!
Will candled day 10 Monday too see what has developed further.

Okay - so today is the day (21st) and I am hearing chirps from the incubator but no sign of cracks in the eggs. Since this is my first time, I am not sure what to expect. Do they chirp before a hole is made or am I in trouble???

Oh My Goodness! She's finnally here, 37 hours after her first pip! (& that was when we noticed it at 4:30 am yesterday).

It took her 2 & 1/2 hours to zip & hatch.

She is resting now. This chick is small and weak... she might have a neck or head issue too unfortunately... but nobody can say she's not a fighter. Keep fighting little one!

Yahoo! My hatching is done - 4 out of 4! Is the anxiety always this stressful?

I'm only guessing it's a girl for keeping us waiting for the grand apprearance. I do it too, so does our daughter... it drives DH insane. LOL.

Thanks to Sally Sunshine too... wherever she is, because if it wasn't for her "DO NOT TOUCH THE FLIPPING EGGS!!"

posts all over BYC, I probably would have ended up doing something stupid. Her consistancy and reassurance has paid off.

Now its time for this mother hen to get a well needed NAP! Tomorrow I'll deal with the 2 chickies with leg issues. (chick #3 though is doing beautifully!!)

Also, has anyone ever noticed that the chicks hatch with their crop filled with fluid? ( I use the dry incubator method, just whatever humidity is in the bathroom.) I used to think it was a problem because I never noticed it before. But this latest chick that had it is doing just fine. So, is that normal? Dumb me for never noticing...

Also, just found a secret stash of eggs my d'uccle was sitting on. She had about 15 of them stuffed under her. Well, actually, she couldn't get them all under her...I left her two and took the rest. I now have 60 eggs in the bator!!!!

Setting my first batch of eggs on the 9th. Easter eggers, olive eggers, sizzles, silkies, and more! I can't wait to get all my eggs in hand. I will be using the LG and praying hard. This is my very first go at hatching!! I am spending the next few days getting everything set up and perfect for my chickies to be!!!

I would imagine it is because they just finished absorbing the yolk.
