FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

Okay - so today is the day (21st) and I am hearing chirps from the incubator but no sign of cracks in the eggs. Since this is my first time, I am not sure what to expect. Do they chirp before a hole is made or am I in trouble???

Thanks

Very nervous!
They chirp when the break the air sac inside internally pip
Next they will make a small crack on the egg shell (pip) then wait a while to get their lungs use to air oxegen ..then zip out a line sideways but may be hours fro m pip to zipping out or could be shortly. GOOD LUCK!!

COME OUT FUZZYS!!

Oh My Goodness! She's finnally here, 37 hours after her first pip! (& that was when we noticed it at 4:30 am yesterday).

It took her 2 & 1/2 hours to zip & hatch.

She is resting now. This chick is small and weak... she might have a neck or head issue too unfortunately... but nobody can say she's not a fighter. Keep fighting little one!

Yahoo! My hatching is done - 4 out of 4! Is the anxiety always this stressful?

Thanks Roxannemc for all the help keeping me calm & informed!

I'm only guessing it's a girl for keeping us waiting for the grand apprearance. I do it too, so does our daughter... it drives DH insane. LOL.

Thanks to Sally Sunshine too... wherever she is, because if it wasn't for her "DO NOT TOUCH THE FLIPPING EGGS!!"

posts all over BYC, I probably would have ended up doing something stupid. Her consistancy and reassurance has paid off.

Now its time for this mother hen to get a well needed NAP! Tomorrow I'll deal with the 2 chickies with leg issues. (chick #3 though is doing beautifully!!)
4 of 4 is spectacular!!! Congrats ..... and Yes it is ALWAYS that stressful 1st or 50th (well i guess im not at 50 yetl)!!

Setting my first batch of eggs on the 9th. Easter eggers, olive eggers, sizzles, silkies, and more! I can't wait to get all my eggs in hand. I will be using the LG and praying hard. This is my very first go at hatching!! I am spending the next few days getting everything set up and perfect for my chickies to be!!!

Yay!!! My first hatch along!!!

.Good to have someone with a few anwsers it helps! EVerytime something new happens too

PaleoDan, yup, mine chirp before they start pipping.

Also, has anyone ever noticed that the chicks hatch with their crop filled with fluid? ( I use the dry incubator method, just whatever humidity is in the bathroom.) I used to think it was a problem because I never noticed it before. But this latest chick that had it is doing just fine. So, is that normal? Dumb me for never noticing...

Also, just found a secret stash of eggs my d'uccle was sitting on. She had about 15 of them stuffed under her. Well, actually, she couldn't get them all under her...I left her two and took the rest. I now have 60 eggs in the bator!!!!
WHEW.....60? YOU GO GIRL!!

Thank you all for the information. I setup a video camera with night vision in the incubator that records video whenever it captures motion. Getting very excited waiting...it's going to be a late night I think

What kind of camera, if you don't mind me asking? I'm looking for something I can use to stream our classroom hatch so kids can show their parents. Best option I can come up with is security type cameras like the Foscam or Keebox.

Well dark usually is a chick in there. Due pretty soon .but could be a bad egg. Still I would keep it in it in and see since you are new. Bettrsaf thansorry
5 days t o go Your lockdown is tonorrow most of the egg will be dark with a white or clear area on one end or not. alldark
SHOULD be the big end but might not .Clear Thats the air cell Look really closely for about 60 seconds at where the air cell and the dark area meet you may see slight movement but someitmes not
GOOD LUCK! Are they shipped eggs or local or your own?
.
Yea, I agree- this how I judge the ones I move over to my lockdown/hatch bator from the big ones. I rarely see movement one they get so full & dark.
