FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

so, I stuffed my Brinsea full of about 36 eggs (give or take ) yesterday. They will be basically a barn yard mix.I have a Cochin rooster, a a frizzled EE rooster, and a regular feathered EE rooster. I have Cochin hens, EE hens, and Tetra Tints from Tractor Supply.

Just finished a similar hatch and got 18 little mutts. I sell my peeps/pullets locally all spring and summer, and I thought I would get a head start this year. It seems people ask for pullets close to laying, so I should be able to accomodate them if I start this early.
Good luck to everyone!

I feel the same way about eating the fertile ones. I have a bunch of eggs in the bator from my girls and I really don't want to hatch any more of them. If I do that will put me over 100 chickens..LOL. Maybe put an ad on Craigslist? Or maybe auction them on ebay.

I just won my first eBay auction for chickens. I purchased 6+ Lavender Orpingtons from someone in Florida. I love the look of this breed and really like the way the Buff Orpingtons I have lay so this should be fun.

I should get them tomorrow and it is pretty cold here right now so I am a little nervous. I plan to let them settle and warm up and put them in the incubator on Tuesday. Does that seem long enough (or too long) to let them settle?

I also just added 3 more eggs from my friends farm today so now hoping for:
  • 2 Golden Sex Links - Feb 9th
  • 3 Mix (not sure) - Feb 23rd
  • 6+ Lav Orps - Feb 25th
if all goes well.

These will be with the 10 we currently have laying (9 hens and 1 Roo) and the two I hatched out today (hopefully 2 more but I doubt it) for a total flock around 24 or so. Now this is before we know how many Roos we will get from the incubating.

I had a pip when I got up this morning. It started ziping about an hour later, but then I had to leave to go to church.. I wonder what I will have waiting for me when I get home??

.Candled last night and all of 12 looked good but 1 and one iffy Day 8.
Someone said you have to be NIP (or whatever it is) to ship eggs. Dont know if they know what they were talking about and i am sure most ppl arent since you cant get new chickens or eggs unless they are NIP or sell anything for 3 MONTHS until they are tested! or 3 months after.... something., But GOOD idea I might do.....
