So so so so cute!!! Love that they stood there for the photoshoot...such well behaved babiesThese are the chicks that hatched the last couple of days for me. I have one or two more in the incubator that are due to hatch tomorrow.
Three Silkie mix - Partridge Showgirl roo over white Silkie Hens, a black showgirl and 1 Frizzle. Both white chicks are showgirls
Three Black Australorp chicks
Four Appenzeller Spitzhauben mix chicks (possibility of a Frizzle in this group)
Two of these are from my flock covered by my rumpless Araucana roo. The chick on the far right is from my 3 year old Buff Orp hen (Araucana roo) and I suspect the chipmunk one is from that pen also. I had one egg that I didn't mark and I did not see hatch, so I'm not sure which one of the left or middle it is. Not pure bred, so harder to figure out - you just don't know what traits are going to come out in a chick. I have my guesses
Quote: I learned a trick from someone, that if you hold a hand on top of them for a little bit it calms them down, and then when you move your hand they are still in that state for a few seconds (got to be quick)
Personally I let mine sit out for about 10 -12 hours b/f putting them in. Then I let them sit still (no turning) for the first 5-6 days.Just a quick Q that I am sure was answered somewhere but I am missing it...After you receive eggs that have been shipped to you, how long should you let them "settle" for prior to placing in the incubator?
Mine should be here today shipping up from Florida and they will have been in the mail for about 3 days and the temps here in NJ have been in the 20's.
Thanks

ok, I spent 27.00 in thermometer/hydrometers for the LG today, I have 3 in there. Humidity is maybe a 1% difference between two....but....three totally different temps....this is not good!
temps at the moment:
cheapo thermometer that came with the LG: 108*
Reptile tank combo from petsmart: 100* even
expensive digital from walmart (lol @ expensive from walmart): 97*
thoughts?
