FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

Go to walmart and buy a glass bulb fish tank thermometer($2-$3.) These are easy to calibrate. Just fill a glass with crushed ice and then add water to the top. let it sit for a few minutes and then stir. hold the thermometer in the middle without touching the sides or bottom. Within a minute it should read 32 F or 0 C whichever it is. If it above the 32 just subtract. If it is below then add that number to get you to the 32F.
Thank you Roxanne and Brooke, I am going to Walmart in a few. Lets see 4 eggs if they ALL hatch, only cost me about 47.00 each, lol. Dang it!!!

So nice to see all the babies hatchin here...so very cute....Congrats to all the new baby mommas and daddys and have patiences to those of us still waiting and i mean myself as well!

I was hoping to sell my chicks to be able to recoup my cost after my mom takes first pick for her very first flock. I am officially crying. Trying not to be so disappointed in myself.

ETA it's weird that ALL the local ones are doing nothing but the shipped ones are the survivors.

Ive been debating on setting eggs as I collect them and doing staggered hatches. Every morn I open up eggs for breakfast and go agh how do I put it back in the shell. This past week or 2 my Marans Rooster has been doing his job and I keep cracking open fertile eggs *SIGH* any suggestions on a good reliable but inexpensive incubator to use as a hatcher. I incubate in the hovabator 1588 right now.

Noob question here: I have 11 eggs incubating. They are at day ten. I candled them yesterday and about half of them had vein formation. The others had a dark half like there was something going on, and one was almost completely dark except for the air cell, which was still pretty small. What does this mean? If I can't see veins by day 10 does that mean the egg is not developing and won't hatch?

Its going into 5 days today. I should see a LOT more than I do. I have FOUR with that tell take spider of veins and two I can see the heart beating in. NOTHING with 99% of the others. Now I wonder if I toss the rest Tuesday and move these Deff fertile ones into the new incubator set up with the new eggs and then move them back to this one for lockdown or just let them sit. Oddly enough, my shipped eggs look the most fertile, and my Ameracauna eggs and sizzle eggs look the most fertile too. Many are just too dark. My husband is going to put a flood light in a heat lamp in a box later for me to see if I can see better through them. But by looking at MANY MANY MANY link and pages, I would gather to say 99% of mine either are completely infertile, or not developing at all.

I don't throw anything out until Day 10. Sometimes they are just last bloomers and take a little longer to show development.

Make your own out of a cooler. They are much more reliable and are way cheaper than a store bought one.
