FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

Okay so I will head over to the injury section in a day - buttttt I have a chick one of the ones that hatched earlier today
& it's legs pop out of it's joints & cant walk because of it?????? I am going to medical tape them up to keep them in place - do yall think that will solve the problem so it wont continue to happen as it grows??

anyone else w/ this issue
I can legit move them back into place

so I wrapped Little Wobble's legs & also attached the legs closer together as well - Oh man I hope everything works out, I don't want to have to put it down

Still waiting on 2 JB eggs & 2EE eggs to do something
I had this a few weeks ago, silkie chick was spraddle leged & toes curled under. I took a bandaid, cut it long ways in half. The little pad in the middle of the bandaid is the lengh a part the legs need to be, so you put it in the middle of the legs, then wrap the sticky ends around each leg. This holds the legs together so they can stand. Don't get it too tight together, that way they can fig. out how to walk with the bandaid on. If her feet are curled, let me know so I can tell you how to make 'boots' to correct that too. I had the bandaid brace on my silkie for about 4 days, then she was fine- you can not tell she ever had a prob. Only thing is, if you are going to help her it needs to be started b/4 she is 3 days old- hope this helps!

Luckily I live in an area that is very farmer friendly and I am sure I will be able to unload my chicks at a fair price 2-3.00 a chick. Once I sell what I can, I will donate the rest through a program I heard of that helps get low income rural families free or low cost livestock. I hope to sell enough chicks to fund hatching more. I can't have any more chickens where I am at (shouldn't really have mine I have now) but I have the NEED to hatch them! I plan on probably keeping a sizzle if I get one too lol. If I can't push my chicks then I won't hatch any more. But I have high hopes! LOL!! And yes, I know I need a farm, and yes, we hope to be moving in the next year

Yep you do need a farm- you sound like me LOL Thankfully I live in a very rural area, can have whatever I want.

No, I didn't mean you charged a lot, but an 8 doz order probably isn't cheap with shipping costs, just would hate to see any more poor eggs who never got a chance! I am so hoping the home made incubator works! I am scared to death!!!

No the eggs aren't cheap to ship. My new lg is holding the temp wonderfully. I am getting a hmeter tomorrow, give it another day then set the eggs. I think what your plans to do with the eggs are wonderful!! When the girls get in full swing of things we want to donate our extras to our church. We have a food pantry that our church does every sat for the needy.

I dnt plan on keeping all the hatchlings either, a few but not all. We plan on getting some more for our layer pen. Silkies and more polish for yard ornaments, selling, showing. My daughter knows I'm such a sucker for letting her have what she wants. I guess I'm living thru her, I had animals but not like this. Ive always wanted a farm.

Thats why I just bought one...I ddnt want to chance anything while hatching, its hard enough as it is...

So after all my worrying, my broody Snowflake hatched out all seven eggs. Four Showgirls and 3 Marans. 100% hatch. Woo hoo. Here they are! Thanks for all the advice and support. Happy Hatching.
They are just adorable. I am wanting some showgirls so bad. I have got to find me some hatchling eggs. Soon

Do you think this chick is a boy or girl? She's two months and a week old, and is half white leghorn, half production red.

These are the eggs I'm incubating right now! One of them I know comes from an easter egger hen, and most of them should be delawares. Some might be barred rocks, RIR, or ameraucauna eggs. The person who gave them to me said that some of them are from breeds she doesn't even know the names of. So interesting. I think all the chickens are from the same coop, so some of these are definitely mixes of these breeds. Should be interesting!

I think you have a little roo. The comb is thicker and wattles are very red.
