FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

My Japanese Bantam chick finally came out this morning & is now in the brooder w/ the other babies!! They are so tiny as well that they are leaving it alone. Early this morning my 2nd to last EE chick(hatched last night) went into the brooder as well. 1 more left!
As soon as the little JB fluffs up completely I will be taking some photos
Just this one chick hatching is already making me impatient for the batch of JB eggs I just set yesterday!! SO ADORABLE first itty bitty baby

more pics please!

this is the themometer that came with the bator

the hydrometer that i got from walmart...if i'm reading correctly the humidity is 38%, so is the high/low ok or do i need to try to readjust them? The temps are reading pretty close to each other...so the temp is good right?

the temp went a littel wacky cause i opened the bator to get a good pic...what's your thoughts?

these are the eggs i'm fixing to set once the bator is good to go!

Thanks!!!

I have 8 eggs left that will make it to lockdown which is tomorrow. 2 Cream Legbars, 3 Japanese bantams, 2 SL Cochinx Dominiques, and 1 Silkie EE. Hatch day is mon feb 25th. Im loving all the pics there has been so much progress for all these eggs.

The BCM I have set are due on the same day! Although, they sometimes take a bit longer, so I'm not expecting much right on the 25th. It is sooo close, can't wait! Good luck on your hatch

Never say never but day 18... it looks like a quiter. to me But it does have something going up the egg???HUMM.. the movement is it when yuare holdign the eggs reall ystill or is it rightafter you turned it or moved it .?Id put it in if it is moving.

There is definitely a live chick in there, no doubts about that. Good movement, quite an active little critter actually, I sat very still & watched him for a bit (it was fascinating as usual). It just seems small and taking up less space. I hope he doesn't pip through the yuck side of the egg. He... um, SHE, actually has a nice sized air sack though so that's good. I don't have too high of hopes for this little one though. However... I have sure learned not to expect ANYTHING with these little chickie-doodles. I'm pretty sure they all go out of their way to make people liars and idiots. LOL.

Also, I was looking through my pictures & notes. I am correct... this is a DIFFERENT egg. I pulled up the picture of the last egg we had a discussion on to check the egg markings, and it was clearly my egg marked as #1. This situation is my egg marked #7.

We'll see!

Also, my teenage son has his regional bowling tournament this Saturday. It's no question that I'm going to go watch & support him. However, I might miss some of the chickie hatchin'-action! That might be a good thing... less eyes glued to the incubator. BUT I'll probably feel like a bad mom watching my son bowl while my brain and thoughts are elsewhere.

Morning all! I checked my bator humidity, temp. Humidity said 100% so I opened up one of the air holes, it dropped to 50%ish. Its still saying the high is in the 90s, low 30s. The temp is holding around 90-100s.

So am I doing what I need for the humidity? Am I reading it right. Just rechecked it and took out the other plug...how am I doing?

Thanks!

Humidity needs to be in the 30's. Both plugs need to be out for air circulation. There is still too much of a swing in your high/low readings. Those should only be changing by a few points. The temp must remain 99-100 or you are going to have eggs that never start to develop or eggs that quit during development. The humidity can not have that much of a swing when you have eggs in the bator. You need to stabilize both your temp and humidity for at least 24 hours before adding any eggs.

The thermometer that came with your incubator more than likely is not reading correctly. I have the samw one that you bought at walmart. The BIG numbers on the left are the present readings. The little arrows curving downwards show that your temp and humidity are inthe process of lowering. You want those arrows to be pointing to the right. That means that they are stable. That 38% humidity reading is perfect. Try to keep it there. The high/low numbers to the right of that show that you have too much of a swing between readings within the last 24 hours those 2 numbers should both be reading around 38. The temp needs to read 99-100 on both the big read out and the high/low read out.
