How are your eggs coming along?

This is the one characteristic of silkies that sometimes makes me think I might want one ! I love their "mama-ness!"

Silkies do have that reputation. But I've also heard of lots of them being terrible moms. And not the smartest cookie in the box either!

They are beautiful though. I had a couple horrible examples of silkies. But they still produced some pretty mixed chicks with my cochin boy.

Did you have any hatchers this morning? I had 3 serama pips when I left home. Thought one might break out before I left, but I waited as long as I could.

How are your eggs coming along? Got quite a few with veins. Some I will pull in a couple days if they are still clear

Inspiring story from this hatch - i don't know if you will be able to tell from this picture, but that egg was held together with athletic tape. Yes, and quite embarrassingly, I dropped another egg just days before their hatch date. This one was pretty bad. There was a giant crack from the air sack, all the way down to the tip. I held out no hope that it would hatch. But, at lockdown, it was still kicking away, so I carefully peeled back a small amount of the tape and prayed that would be the side it would pip on. Last night, when I went to bed, nothing had happened with it. This morning, it had already hatched!! Amazing!! Never give up, my friends!

This morning's count is 7 black sex links - surprisingly, the girl count is ahead of the boy count - by one. My luck, all the rest (there's 4 more of those) will be male. I'm still waiting for any activity on the shipped eggs - American Bresse - that I'm hatching for friends. I really would love to present them with a nice clutch of babies! (Yeah, I'm worrying a little.)

That is cool as crap!! Never thought about that kind of tape. Have seen glue, wax, scotch tape, band-aids, etc, but that was good thinking!

I tried liquid band aid on an egg that got cracked in shipping. I think it might have done ok, but I couldn't stand the smell. Even after 2 days in the incubator, it still had that odor, so I pulled it. I didn't want it to affect the other eggs.

Congrats!
