February 2022 Hatch-A-Long

Solo, my lone three week old chick, is making some pretty sad sounds about her brooder box being taken up. She doesn't know what to make of the new arrivals. I have another tote set up for her if she doesn't get on with them, but so far she's just keeping away. I would like her to have some friends, must get lonely for her.
They take a couple of days to get used to each other then they should get along fine

I hope so! Will see how they go. I normally wouldn't try mixing, but since the 3-week-old was a solo hatch, hence why I thought might be good for her. The chicks are under the heat pad and she's sitting on top at the moment.

Hoping to get some Silkie eggs, but no one locally is laying here in Utah 😭 My pullets have spoiled me for winter laying, 44 eggs last month from just the two of them (and one was our first Wyandotte that couldn’t wait for today lol)

Bummer! I hope you can find some! I feel like my hens are laying more right now than they did all summer. lol

One of them decided to follow Solo around and she wasn't having it. First she just was avoiding, but then she decided to be a bit of a bully, so they're going to be seperated for a while, until the little chicks are a bit older and try again.

My first attempt was shipped eggs. I didn't really have a choice as the breeds I want are the other side of the island, or even in the next island lol. My first one produced Solo, named due to being the only one, but this one has gone much better.

While none were pipped that I could see, I quickly took the Araucana girl out.
