February 2022 Hatch-A-Long

9 out of 15 made it to lockdown. That’s definitely better than my 7/16 from my last hatch (1st) I hope I cut the carton down enough for the saddled ones. I probably should have separated them for healthy over the weekend

so far it looks like 3 of the 9 have hatched. I am seeing three heads on the camera, so I either have three chicks or a three-headed chick....

Question yall...this is just my 2nd hatch
I thought I'd try to do better this time than last time LOL...I did say try!
So I got all confused with the first hatch in November last year and thought the entire room needed to be 99.5
To the guest bathroom they went brooding!
Once I got on here at BYC I learned the brooder plate was sufficient for them to get underneath for the ultimate warmth and the rest of the room could be normal I moved them to the garage.
But I don't remember it being quite this cold then...we dipped back down to the 20s at night and low 40s during day.
I've got the brooder plate low as it will go setup in the garage. I've also got a heat lamp as well to try and kill the chill. The garage is not heated otherwise.
Do yall believe they will do ok out there?
The brooder is an old Rottweiler crate we had before she passed away so it is a large area which is why I added the heat lamp. I used that in November as well too with the brooder plate.

I'm trying to avoid moving them so much like I did first hatch as well as having to clean so many places LOL!

Personally, I would bring them inside if it is that cold. I believe the brooder plates are meant for 50 degrees and up ambient temperature.

Ok good to know...the new temperature/ hygrometer came today...and it's just not showing even underneath the brooder plate much over 75

They should be fine, but I would check the temperature at the floor level of the crate. The heat plate should be enough and the heat lamp should keep them from being chilled. I don't know what temp your garage is getting to.

I have had some chicks do well in an outbuilding with just a heat lamp and others struggle to survive with a heat plate and lamp in my bathroom.
