February Broody On 14 Eggs BRR!

The turken is a polish!! Polish are my only white egg layers so I know for a fact I got my Polturk lol. So far 3 have hatched, I hope there will be more by tomorrow. I locked down my 32 eggs in the incubator tonight, the chicks appeared to be large and I was told 16 - 18 days for a still air incubator is good so I'm at day 17. Waiting for the humidity to get up to 65%, seems like it's taking a lifetime. Can you tell me if it is alright to leave my thermometer on top of the eggs during lock down or should I put it on the bottom (grate)? We had beautiful weather today 45 and tomorrow it's supposed to be 47.

now for the big thaw and mud. Maybe my Muscovys will start laying. Since it has warmed up we finally put our potbellied piglet outside, Mr. Pig AKA Pork chop, Porky, or MP Hammer lol. He was the runt so we syringe Fed him, litter box trained him, socialized him with our 1 1/2 year old grandson, but pig poo smells horrible so I'm glad he's out in the barn being a pig. He gets the run of our yard when we are outside but goes back in his stall/pen at night. We still have his mom but rehomed the boar and the rest of the babies, I didn't want to contribute to the potbellied pig problem, they don't stay small forever! His mother wants nothing to do with him but maybe come summer pasture time they will see eye to eye. We did get him fixed. I'd love to see pictures of your hens LRH, SORRY I don't know your name.
I can't wait to see pics of the nn/Polish!!! What a mix. I have a silkie polish and my nn roo, so I am hoping for some of the same later this year.

Cool! I usually try to take the thermometer off if I can. However, it's probably more important that you are able to see it from outside to monitor the temp., since it's best not to open the bator during lockdown. So if the only position that you can see it is on top of eggs, I would leave it. I don't know if I could deal with a pig in the house! I do good to brood chicks in the living room when I have to. We're currently in the thawed out mud stage. I'm glad the snow is gone, but the mud is plain gross. I'll try to get some better pictures of the three tomorrow. They weren't in a very friendly mood today for some reason.

Here's the update!! So far I have 11 chicks and more are hatching as we speak. This information is reference for me otherwise I will never remember. Set Date Feb 20, Lock down March 8th (16 days), March 11, 2 pipping one hatch. March 12th 10 hatched with 7 more pipping. I kept the incubator at 65% until the chicks started hatching then the humidity shot up to 75%. I did open the incubator and removed chicks when they were partially dry, I only removed vent caps to get humidity down a bit when it rose to 75%. So far one turken! I also got one polish but it is either mixed with an EE or the Turken Roo but did not get the naked neck. I am so pleased with this hatch. What is ironic is none of my EE eggs have pipped? I wonder why this is unless they will hatch tomorrow, I hope! I will take better pictures tomorrow after the chicks have completely dried.

I've had chicks keep me waiting until day 22 or sometimes even 23 to pip. It's torture waiting. Your chicks are looking good!
