Hi all! Just joining this thread today, had a lot of catching up to do.

Looks like we have a very interesting bunch, I'm excited to be here!

Set 17 assorted chicken eggs today for a VDay hatch. 8 are Lav Ams from Garry Farm and the rest are a BY mix mystery bunch.

My Brinsea mini is empty though so you never know, may set more eggs at many moment, lol!

There's another member of this hatch along hatching Garry Farm Lav Ams. I am placing an order for next month, I'm super curious what you thought of their shipping? I'm considering doing express, even though I'm only two states away...

I'm the one that lives an hour away from you. She shipped mine on Wednesday and I got them on Friday. The packaging was EXCELLENT!! They were all wrapped in bubble wrap, placed in a small box, then that box was placed in another larger box. She had egg cartons in the bigger box for cushioning. She has an article on here somewhere with pictures of how she packs them. I'll see if I can find it for you. The eggs were in great shape except 1 was really really dirty. I candled them and all had good air cells and no cracks. All the other shipped eggs I've had, have had saddle shaped or rolling air cells.

Edited to include the link.

I wasn't sure if you'd gotten yours yet! :)
Sounds like I should be fine without express shipping... :)

I was thinking about paying express but when I realized how much more I would have to pay, I decided I rather set my eggs a day late than pay all that for shipping. My eggs were shipped out Tuesday, exactly as promised the previous Saturday. They were here Thursday, plenty of time to settle but not too much. And the packaging was awesome. No damage to the egg shells at all.

The only thing I would say is that you never know what can happen in the mail, anything can happen. So as far as that, the seller only has so much control. I think Garry Farm packs really well, and I am confident they did what they could to get quality eggs to me. I would re-order if ever I wanted HE and they were offering what I wanted, for sure, and I doubt I would pay for express shipping with having had a great pack job from them and the short trip this time.

Eggs arrived today! They are settling, and the sinkubator is fired up and has been steady as a rock. This will be my first hatch, so excited!

From left to right:
8 Swedish Flower Hens
2 Olive-Eggers
3 Mystery Eggs

The unidentified ones are quite a bit smaller, so I am thinking a bantam. Will be fun to find out!

So eggsited for you. Good luck.

I'm glad hatching season is finally here. It seems forever since I hatched. I guess it has. I let the broody's hatch the last ones from fall. I still have 2 in the trough in my carport room. I keep my babies in brooders on my porch and when they out grow those I move them to the trough. Then outside to the juvenile pen. By the time this first hatch is old enough to go outside it will be spring. We've had a mild winter so far. It was 51 degrees today. We've only had a couple weeks of freezing cold and it snowed yesterday but it wasn't cold enough for it to stick. Today we cleaned up the yard and did some repair on a run

OMG... Guess I'll be longer than Feb 4th for the Hatchalong. Just got an auction for a dozen White Marans eggs. Adding in the 26 TJ's chicks still going strong, I'm gonna be up to my eyeballs in white feathers....
