In fact, I recently read through all 161 pages of the Lavender Ameraucana thread and made a "summary post". You might want to check it out...

I wanted to learn everything I could about them before starting!
I will have to check that out!! I am in love with that breed and want to learn more. I especially want to make sure if I'm getting true Ameraucana's or EE's. Ofcourse, I love both of them and want a ton more!! Lol

I've actually already contacted her! I'm thinking the same thing, less distance, less damage. Although after reading a dozen threads on shipping eggs, I'm starting to think Express mail is probably worth the money.
But for now, I'm just so excited to have my first ever hatch (even if I'm not keeping the chicks)! :)

I just joined BYC, but have picked up a lot of tips here before I joined that have improved my husbandry much faster than trial and error. I learned how to strap a spraddle, boot a crooked toe, and wick during lockdown all on BYC. I would do Google searches, and always wound up on an old thread on BYC. It's a great site

Heres my eggs! Chocolate Orpingtons and BBS Ameracaunas. Im adding some of my own mixes too. Some EExAustralorps and some Lav. Orp. x barred rock too.

Why are you not keeping the chicks, will you be able to part with them after seeing their fluffy cute bodies?

First off, my coop isn't ready yet- they can't stay if they don't have a home! ;)
Secondly, my oldest son and I are hoping to show birds at the NC Fair, and want purebred birds to do so. These hatching eggs I got are total "mutts". Not that there's anything wrong with that, and I know they'll still be SUPER cute... I just need to keep a handle on the number of birds, and these just don't work into the equation.
I'm sure they make someone very happy for Valentines though! :)

I'll be setting my eggs this saturday to kick off my hatching season. I ordered and paid for in advance from 3 breeders so I could add new blood to my silkie pens and add to my orpington pen. I only got 1 package. One of the other breeders birds stopped laying which is normal for silkies and the other person I have yet to hear from. The eggs I asked to be shipped on tuesday. So it looks like I'll be setting 6 orp eggs and the rest will be from my silkie pens. I don't have a roo with my orp hen so if she was laying they wouldn't be fertile. We use her eggs for our personal eating use. I plan to fill my hovobator since my home made cabinet isn't finished yet

Hello everyone
I have 26 chicken eggs in the incubator right now, I am not expecting much. My boy is only seven months old and is in with twenty hens and pullets. This hatch is to work the kinks out of the incubator, which is a good thing considering three days in my bator decided to stop talking to the humidity pump. Okay so what is in the bator is 5 Gold Laced Orpingtons 23 GL ORP crosses and two buff orps fingers crossed.

Set my eggs today for my third hatch ever!

12 Welsummers, 12 Belgian d'Anver, 10 Bantam Silver Laced Cochin! I'm hoping to get a few less roosters this time (last was 8 out of 9 hatched). All shipped eggs so hope they are not scrambled.

I am also trying it in a different room in my house. I have had wonderful success using my living room BUT my cat messes with the incubator. I'm trying it in my laundry room this time. It is the warmest room in the house so we will see what happens. I'm keeping a close eye on temps.

I've got mine in a closet, but it's the "safest" place in the house. I've got four kids (2, 4, 6, 8 years old) who would most definitely mess with the incubator! Even though it's not the warmest room, it is less drafty, and much safer! In fact, I'm hoping to keep the whole thing secret until the chicks pip...
