February hatch-a-long 2018

I had a Button quail take 36 hours to enter the world from its first, external pip. It never made a peep, even when I talked to it, so I was very worried it wasn't going to be healthy. But it was absolutely fine (i did end up helping out but I wasn't hopeful for a positive outcome) and it was ready when it was ready. Some babies do take forever to hatch.

Ended up helping the duckling out this morning my barely tearing the membrane where it was trying to get at and I had to put it down fast I barely took off an inch before it was hatching

I have had nine chicks hatch and one duckling. Two more chicken eggs left and three duck eggs that are due to hatch. I have that aren't due until next weekend.

When should I expect external pips? I saw shadows in the egg when I candled them right before lockdown yesterday...

I'm pretty sure ducks like to take their merry time and keep you in suspense! From the first external pip it can take 48 hours or longer for them to finally hatch (just did a bit of reading).

I'm just worried about them not external pipping. I'm pretty sure they pipped internally because I saw shadows, but no external pips

On average it's around 24 hours but I've had quail go longer. Ducks, like quail, like to hatch together so they may be coordinating their hatch, waiting for some to be ready to go.

Well I end up putting more eggs in the incubator. As geese eggs, duck and chicken. The chickens will be due 3/19, the ducks 3/26, the geese 3/26-4/3. I need to have my incubator taken away at this rate lol
