My Silkie hens did a good job this round. I was thinking another week on these and not holding much hope after the last round resulted in crushed eggs/ chicks at hatching. So far the Mamas have hatched out 7 chicks and are still sitting on about 20 more eggs.....at least that was my estimate without getting pecked too much for looking under them.

I still have my SS and a few Silkie eggs in the bator at the house. Going to be having chicks coming out my ears!

Here are a few quick pics from their nest box this morning.....

We are not show breeders so we keep all our colors together. I am hoping for another crele...maybe a hen this time since I have a dark crele roo in there. So fun!

I woke up at 3 am this morning to find the thermostat in my furnace had stopped functioning, House Temp was 86F and Climbing, the Brooder Temp was 100F and still climbing, Incubator was 100.9 and Climbing......

Adjusted Brooder lamp readjusted incubator temp, checked humidity, fought the Furnace Thermostat and returned to bed.

it is now 9:24 am and the house is a comfy 73 (warmer than normally set) and I had to readjust everything in the hatching room again.

Congrats to all the hatchers and broodies out there and welcome to the newcomers.

I ended my crummy incubation and put the last four little eggs to rest after doing eggtopsies. Two were pipped but dead. One was stinky brown liquid, luckily still contained within the membrane. The fourth was barely alive but died shortly after I got him out. So I was left to onder if I hadn't helped him would he have died or gotten out. Considering how weak he was and how long it appeared he had been pipped he probably would have died like the others.

So I end this dreadful incubaton with one olive egger and 3 BCMs. The Golden Copper Marans just wasn't meant to be.

Wishing everyone great success. I can't wait until I have unshipped fertile eggs again! Here they are, BCM's to the right, Olive Egger on the left:
