Here are the 5 that I hatched! There are 4 in the bator that didn't pip, going to leave them in over night and see if there are any late bloomers. how long should I wait? all the others hatched out last night...
I am tickled to death with them, and they were shipped from Utah to Tennessee via USPS!!!
They are Bantam Welsummers from Gamebirdsonly's German stock. I am going to leg-band the ones w/out eyeliner to see if they are cockerels and the ones w/liner & dark head-stripes are pullets.
After the disastrous January hatch I am delighted. I have my humidity at 69. That last hatch left me with LOTS of thermometers and hygrometers!
I find I really like little round set I found at PetSmart for lizards, etc. they fit right into the turner/carton cup. The numbers are tiny and I have a hard time reading them, so I just orient the instrument so that the 12:00 position is in the middle of where I want it. T - 100 [+/- .5], RH 70 [+/- 5] in the hatcher (40 +/- 5 in the bator). That way, when I look in, if the needle is straight up, I'm good
I am getting antsy about those 2 zipped ones. They have made no progress in about 30 hours. When I took out the chicks [because the hooligans were picking into the zips and running rough-shod w/their cleets over the eggs!] I misted them w/warm water. Then of course there are the three slackers
Whats a chick-Mom to do????
I can see them breathing and they are cheeping, so I will sit on my hands at least until tomorrow [day 23]. Ideas, anyone??
